I'll have a stab at guessing. It could be from Horse Chestnut trees as I know their pollen is red. Also it might be from Gorse, peach trees or Blackthorn (as Jerry says.)
Hello Quiz participants. The correct answer is Horse chestnut (Aesculus hippocastanum). There are very many in bloom at the moment around my garden and throughout the city. The plum goes to Eileen this time.
I thought they just transferred/carried pollen on their body... but they actually put it in pouches??
Hiya Cheryl. No, they do not really have pouches as such. The area where it collects the pollen is a bit concave and there are small "hairs" that hold the pollen grains in place.
It is a handy place to put the pollen until they get back, that's for sure. It is out of the way. When they get back it can be a little bit of work to get those gobs off their legs and into the cells. Take a look at this film. Klik on the link then scroll down then klik on the "filmpje" to see it. You may find it interesting. http://www.imkerpedia.nl/wiki/index.php/Stuifmeel I think that you will be able to see the bee with pollen, but if you cannot for some reason, let me know and I will walk you through it. I hope that your compi cam play this sort of vid. Good luck with it.
