A shrew by any other name?

    Let's call her Katherine for all the Shakespeare aficionados out there.;)
    Northern short tailed shrew. One of the few venomous mammals in nature.

    I love seeing these little animals but they are so quick it's hard to keep track of them. I don't attempt to handle them though as they have a really painful bite. Well done in managing to get such great shots.

    I never knew a shrew was venomous. Wonderful the things one can learn here on the Stew! (Still looks mighty like a rat to me . . . .)

    They are quick when spooked. A few days later I actually followed it for a good twenty mins. as it was munching on bugs in the lawn. Never gave me second glance. I read the other day they have a 90% mortality rate in the colder parts of the north east. Not much hope I'll see it again next year.

    Had no idea any animal was venomous. I never see anything like this as they move too fast and I'm too slow AND I try to NOT see creepy crawlies but this is more than interesting.
