When my husband was tidying up near our raised beds yesterday he found a few peanuts(in shells) tucked into a little dip and covered by wood chips. I have seen a squirrel crossing the fence at the bottom of the garden and thought it was making for our neighbours but obviously not....I rather like the thought that it thinks we'll look after its cache. Soooo, the question is-do we need to take any precautions to stop said squirrel damaging anything we may plant this year in the way of veg if it comes looking for the peanuts?
Awww, isn't it nice to be trusted? I don't know how the squirrels behave where you live. If I had a squirrel squirreling away nuts in my garden I'd probably go to extremes to keep it.
I not sure about how much intentional damage they would do. But if they try and bury their cache in your garden dirt. They could dig up your plants by mistake. I guess I would discourage them from hiding them there. We feed peanuts to the crows and it is so funny to watch them try and hide them in the grass. You know that a squirrel will come along and sniff them out. Isn't wildlife fun to watch.
Thanks for that. I now have photographic proof that they might dig up other stuff which I'll post later...not sure how I can put them off from doing so.
