A member asked for a good night forum. Maybe a place to post happenings during the day and a way to wind up with a "good night."
Frank ask me to start one and I'm not sure about a name for it.
"A summary of our day in the garden" is what I've come up with so far.
It's for anyone who would like to write about their day and tell everyone good night. It's not just for one person but for anyone who would like to wrap up their day with a post on gardenstew and tell everyone to have a great evening and a good night.
I do it on another site and it's evolved into a nightly routine.
If you can think of a good name or like another one better, let me know.

So, I didn't get into the garden today but I spent all day yesterday working outside trying to catch up on things I didn't get done all summer due to the heat! Today was errand day so we didn't have time for gardening! I did look in the garden department at a couple of stores but didn't buy anything.
Have a good evening and a good night!

Now, you post yours and let's see if we can keep it going. See you tomorrow night if not sooner.

Ok, I'll try this. Today was not a garden day for me either. I was at work until 9 tonight! BUT, I did admire a maroon oxalis on my office window sill. The afternoon sun was shining through it, lighting it up like a red flame. Beautiful! Next time it happens, I'll try to get a shot of it.

Good night all. May you all have dreams as beautiful as my oxalis!

My day in the garden didn't go well at all. Mostly because I didn't make it to the garden or even to the yard. It was fall house cleaning day. dr brought my tubs of fall decor from the shed so we started going through it and then we started clearing out summer stuff and rearranging things to put up fall stuff. Somehow all of our fall stuff ended up being for inside. So, we went looking for outside fall stuff but didn't find any, not even scarecrows or the fall corn. I know I had some of that to hang on the deck last fall. dr said it was ratty looking so we threw it out for the squirrels.
We did make it out to feed the birds and put up a new bird feeder so now we have two large ones and one smaller one. We're ready for winter birds now.
It got hot again and I do need to sew some more shopping bags. Mini-market is the 1st Saturday of the month and it's rapidly approaching.
You all have a great evening or night whichever it is at your place. We'll try to do the same.

Got out to the garden to give the dogs their outside break both morning and evening. We make several trips outside whether we need it or not.

Rains have come, but even in the morning dark I could see where I really need to put a check on the sweet woodruff. Pulled a little to get my hands dirty before heading off to work in a room with no windows. Have started using my 'Northern Lights' visor to hopefully help with the seasonal affective disorder. Winters can be hard when I never get to see the light of day because of my work schedule.

Picked some grapes and little cherry tomatoes this evening. Don't know why my tomatoes were so poorly when the neighbors look so good. Think my veggie area is just too shaded. The sequoia is just throwing too much shade as it grows taller each year in the neighbors yard. Maybe I should try the front yard next summer for some of my veggies.

Will sit back with a lap full of little dogs and relax until bed time now. Great evening to all.

I was a "nay-sayer" to this earlier in a previous post... but as I have given it some thought...why not have a "good day" and a "good evening" thread?
It's not that hard to keep up with cheryl!
    :D
My day was a usual work day. But I did have a bright spot and got to talk to my god-son for the first time in about 6 months.
The only garden-related stuff I did today was give a bit of water to the potted plants.
Oh wait... I did check out the mark-down rack at "that" store today. Didn't purchase anything... just couldn't justify buying plants that were already shutting down for the season.
    Good evening all!

Another day has gone and I didn't do too much outside. I went out this morning and collected all of the hummingbird feeders. I only saw 3 hummingbirds this week. I think the heavy rain made the others leave and head for drier climate.
But, I washed all of the feeders and rinsed them really well and refilled four of them. I think if I only saw three hummingbirds that four feeders should be enough even if they share with the bees. I didn't refill the bird feeders because we did that yesterday. I need to go bring in all the water bowls and tubs and give them a good cleaning tomorrow. Maybe I can get out first thing tomorrow and get the rest of those weeds pulled in the back garden. It's supposed to be mid 90's two more days and then back to 80's but it's been cool in the mornings.
I sewed shopping bags this afternoon. Five small child size and two larger ones. I have some Halloween ones to do but need orange thread. I can get that on Friday. I need to do a farm apron and a couple heavier ones with the two rows of pockets across the front and two at the top. Maybe a garden apron or two. We'll see. If it stays cool mornings I might just be able to weed the front yard, too. All summer I just did the minimum that had to be done. But, I need to get out more now.
It's time to say good night now. So, you all have a great night and stay safe and warm or cool as the case may be. goodnight!

An all work day. Was late to an important meeting because of a dead battery. I hate being late for anything. Things went smoothly for most of the day, only one hiccup in the afternoon. Lots of needy little bodies/minds this year. Have been collecting cardboard at work to redo beds. Keep forgetting to put the broken down boxes in my car. Should do that first thing tomorrow morning as soon as I get to work.

Took a few minutes to get the lily bulbs I got at the plant trade in the ground. If the slugs don't eat them as they come up in the spring I will probably have to move them. It least the lilies are in the ground. Also pulled a little bineweed in the front yard on my way into the house.

As I parked my car I noticed the King Tut hosta should probably be divided to add that pop of gold along the fence line bed. Maybe the weather will cooperate this week-end. Am tired tonight so will probably fall asleep early. Hopefully in bed and my chair. LOL

Here it is Thursday night and the week is coming to an end soon. My gardening duties today included going out with a scrub brush and a hose and cleaning the birds water tub and bowls. They do get that green algae in them in a small amount of time it seems. I took the hose with me. I emptied each bowl in turn, scrubbed them and refilled them. dr filled the feeders. We have to refill them almost daily. It seems the little sparrows have found them. They sure do eat a lot. What they don't eat, they kick out onto the ground and the doves and cardinals eat. I filled the hummingbird feeders. Instead of the three hummingbirds that I had yesterday, there were a dozen or more today. Good thing I didn't hurry and use the "large" bag of sugar we bought last week. I sat out in the front yard for quite awhile this evening. The yard was shaded, there was a small breeze, it was quiet and I sat watching the birds. They would forget that I was there about 20 feet from them unless I moved too much. I had a glass of iced tea and maybe it made a flash or something when I moved it. But, it was a good day for sitting in the "garden." I hope you all had a good day and you just have a good night. No worries or gremlins to keep you awake!

It's Friday night and another week has come down to the weekend. It's still warm out here and today it was cloudy, too. I've been doing a lot of sewing because in October there are a couple of crafty places where I may be able to sell things. I've been working on fall and Halloween things. Now, I've got to work on the Pea Pickin' Aprons for a bbq cookoff that's coming up the end of October. I guess I could make some bbq aprons, too. I have some lightweight ones but want to make some out of a heavier material.
My outside work today consisted of refilling some hummingbird feeders. There were a couple dozen of the little birds flying around. If they would just eat they could fill their tummies. But, no, they have to chase each other and dive and soar and come to rest of the fence. Then, they start all over again. No wonder they need so much sugar.
I filled the feeders with seed again today. They entirely emptied two feeders. I need to move the little one. Cardinals try to eat out of it because the bigger ones are busy with those little sparrows. No room for cardinals unless they get nasty which they don't seen to do. I need to buy another one of those suet cakes filled with sunflower seeds. The cardinals really like those.
I made an apple pie today but it didn't turn out to be really great. It tasted all right but I let it get a bit too brown. I think it needed a shorter cooking time at a bit higher temperature.
Tomorrow is another day and there is a chance of rain. I don't think we are planning on going anywhere so maybe I can get some of that grass pulled out of the front gardens. Hope, hope, hope!
You all have a good night now and have pleasant dreams.

What a nice topic... My days are all used up before I can get to the Stew most days, so this fits me much better, but I am so tired at this time of day I am ready for bed. I spent the week outside once again and it is already Friday night...maybe I should blog this instead, hmmm, well anyway, this week I butchered the 26 meat chickens I raised from peeps. That took me three days to finish with all the running I am doing for caity and school. I picked a bushel of tomatoes and they are winding down and it looks like next week the bulk of them will be done. Peppers I picked a bushel of tonight. Patty Pan squash are looking like they are going to quit producing soon I only picked 8 of them. And yay! I picked raspberries without seeing a lot of damage from the spotted wing drosophilia fly. Apples are dropping like flys, I can hardly get them picked quick enough. My new patch of beans are ready and there was a bushel in there to get ready for tomorrows market. I am getting tired. I think I will be glad that the season is done pretty soon. Then I can make applesauce and tomato juice for us.

    Good Night all!

I couldn't post here last night as it was really pouring down rain with thunder and lightning. The rain started about 1:30 pm and continued until some time in the middle of the night. The rain gauge said we got 2.70 inches. There was an 80 percent chance of rain today but it all went southeast of us today. Only a 30 percent chance for rain tomorrow. I was awake for awhile during the night with a sinus cough. dr made me a cup of hot tea and after awhile it went so I could go back to sleep. We got up late so the day was all messed up meal wise. I tried to skip lunch but dr wouldn't let me. It was only 77 degrees here today and is supposed to be in 80's this week so maybe fall will really come.
Didn't do any sewing today. Read mostly. You all have a good evening and a good night.
    goodnight!

Cut the runner bean vines and moved trellis and all under an umbrella. With record rains am not sure if I will be able to dry the beans successfully, but will give it a try.

I tried all day yesterday to get out in the garden, but was woefully unsuccessful. I've spent the last 10 days helping my daughter out after the birth of my 8th grandchild, and as I'm back at work this fine Monday morning, yesterday was my day to catch up on some of my household things that were put on hold, including a few essential garden things like the weeding. I felt like I was running to catch up all day yesterday, kept telling myself "one more thing inside and then I'll get to the garden." Well that happened all day till it was suddenly time to meet friends for dinner. The weeding never did get done. But thankfully it rained a bit last night so Mother Nature took care of the watering I also didn't get to yesterday! :)

I'm late tonight. I spent the afternoon and evening sorting out the big bag of buttons that we bought at the thrift shop this morning. I bought some sandwich bags and sorted sets of buttons into them. I almost used 100 bags. Yikes! Now, what do I do with all of those buttons. Mostly I wear pullover shirts. I do have some slacks with just one button so I wouldn't need a set of button for those. Oh, dear! It was sort of fun going through them though. I remember playing in my grandma's button box. We'd thread the buttons onto string and make necklaces. She used to make us whirlygigs to spin and play with out of buttons.
I checked my tomatoes this afternoon. I wondered how the rain helped them. I planted 8 plants and they are all still green but only two of them have grown much and they have buds so maybe I will get some tomatoes one of these days if something don't come along and eat them. I guess grasshoppers don't care for tomatoes. Or maybe they are waiting for real ripe tomatoes.
You all have a good night now. It's not supposed to rain tonight and it's getting cool enough that we won't need the a/c, maybe.
    Goodnight!
