Sjoerd may remember that I said I had given up on trying to grow Lathyrus because it just wouldn't grow in my yard.
Well today while doing some fall cleanup I found this:

A tiny Lathyrus with a single bloom!! Maybe I shouldn't give up quite yet :D

What a lovely surprise that must have been Netty. I do like Sweet Peas in the garden and also as cut flowers for the home.

Wow! A late bloomer :D I love them! My grandmother told me to soak the seeds overnight before planting them and to plant on March 17th. sounds crazy but it works ;)

Why that would be St. Patrick's Day. A lucky day,

    Now Netty, that's the spirit!
Yes, I remember you lamenting your bad luck again this year with Lathyrus.
I am thrilled for you. Does this one have any fragrence?

I often start my Lathyrus in march, but sometimes in november and sometimes in february.

If you try therm again, good luck and ...THINK POSITIVELY. ;)

Oh I WILL! I think I'll try them a little earlier next year. March 17th DOES sound crazy - we still have snow then I think - but I'm willing to give it a shot ;)

If you still have snow, you could get hold of some root-trainers and start them off inside in a cool room in your house...and then nip the shutes off a couple of times during the course of their in-house captivity.

Congratulations! :D Ours just started blooming too, so if I'm going to try to grow them again, I'll sow them on Saint Patrick's day.

Netty, I love the color. Congrats on the first bloom, may you have many, many more.

I had a couple of store bought plants a few years ago that did very well and I loved them.
I promise myself each year to try to remember to sow them early the next year. Maybe I could get them started on New Years Day, especially if our winter is as mild as they are predicting it to be.
