Hi, everyone! I'm new to forums of any kind, so the Garden Stew is my first experience. I've been in the Navy for over 4 and a half years. I am currently located in East Tennessee and I love it. It is so beautiful and the Spring and Fall are enchanting. My French Bulldog, Gus, and I love to get outside and explore this new place. You may see some photos of him with my plants because those(Gus and plants) are my two loves. I hope you guys don't mind, but Gus is like my child. :)

I joined this forum to learn how to be a better gardener and plant grower. :) My interest in plants started when I was a young girl and would stay with my Granny some weekends. I would help her tend her garden and pull weeds from the flower beds. One day, she let me plant some Marigold seeds in her flower bed. I was so excited to get to plant something that was MINE. I remember going and looking for my plants a couple of visits after the initial planting and never saw them sprout. Yet, the next time I visited I saw three almost full grown plants!! Boy, was I excited. So, that experience is what made me want to pursuit plants. However, I should probably say that I think those seeds were bad because later I came to find out that Granny had bought the plants from the local nursery and plants in my seeds place. :)

So, anyway, I have experienced great success with plants other than those marigolds. That is why I consider myself a gardener. Yet, being in the Navy makes gardening quite difficult at times.I am hoping to learn how to make a beautiful garden no matter where I am or what type of home I live in.

I look forward to getting to know y'all and learning all that I can. :) Have a great one!

Hi Leigh, welcome to GardenStew from north Texas. Looking forward to any photos you want to share, we love seeing gardens of other members. And photos of their pets or fur-kids as some call them. We all either have pets are have had them so we totally understand the love we can have for those four-legged critters who just let us think we are the boss ;)

Yep, Grammas are like that. And since it got you interested in being a gardener she did a good job teaching you when you were young.

Thank you, Toni! I have added some photos to "My Garden" on my profile. Is that where everyone can see them or is it just for me to see? As I said in my initial post, I'm a novice at forums. Any guidance you can offer is appreciated! :) Thank you!

    Marlingardener,

I'm interested in starting a garden blog. Not sure what to really say or how to start it. But, I guess I can poke around at other's for an example. :) I hope you enjoyed my meager indoor garden. I'm in an apartment, so space is limited to indoor growing and that is difficult to find the space for at times. :)

Thanks for the welcome! Gus and I will be posting from time to time. :) I look forward to gardening with you. :)

    Jerry,

Thank you so much for the kind words of encouragement about my Violets. :) They are very happy plants aren't they. I thought it was just me that thought that! :) My first couple of violets I bought because I admired the plant. However, most of them I "rescued" from grocery stores where the florist wasn't taking very good of them. I am very pleased with the way they are all turning out.

I can already tell that this is a very kind and encouraging group of folks just from the response I received from this post. I have done some poking around in the articles available, and I am a little overwhelmed because I know so little able a lot of the plants that people have. But, I'm sure I will catch on soon. :) It all just reminds me that I have a lot to learn. Thanks for the welcome!

    Don,

Thanks! I look forward to learning about what you grow and techniques you find helpful. :)

    Cherylad,

Thank you. I'm glad that I found y'all too! :)I look forward to seeing your garden and learning your favorites.

    Carolyn Keiper,

Thanks. I'm glad to be here. It is so amazing that we can connect all over the world with people that love to grow beauty and gain peace and serenity by doing so. :) And, who can resist those happy little blooms in the Spring?? Not ME! :) I look forward to growing with you.

    Eileen,

Wow! Scotland?! That's awesome! My ancestors were Scottish. I have always wanted to visit the country and learn more about my lineage. Thank you for the warm welcome. :)

Hi Leigh and a warm welcome to GardenStew. I enjoyed hearing your story of how you became a gardener, it's really great how adults care enough about gardening to pass it along to the younger generation.

I combined all of your last 5-6 posts into one post to make for easier reading.

    Enjoy!

Welcome, growingwithtime. Another Tennessee resident here, west of Nashville tho. It's greening up everywhere, pollen counts in the thousands, lol. I think 180 is considered high.

    Frank,

Thanks for the warm welcome. :) My grandma was a very dear woman. Gardening is is my way of having her close to me even though she isn't here on this earth. :)

Combining my posts DOES make it easier to read! Thanks for the help.

    Rockhound,

Howdy, fellow Tennessean! It's great to hear that someone else is here from my neck of the woods. But we sure have different weather don't we! Isn't it crazy how we live in the same state but have very different climates and vegetation because of it? I love the diversity of plant life we have. I look forward to seeing your garden and growing with you, friend.

    Netty,

Thank you. I look forward getting to know you and seeing your favorite plants and flowers.
