Well, you folks know that I am not one to shy away from a break, a pause...or taking a few minutes out to sit and chat with someone who comes by for a visit. One must pace one's self, right? ...and heck--it would be downright unfriendly to keep working, wouldn't it. I have written about taking a break for tea and bikkies a number of times. It all takes place on a bench in front of the garden house which has a sort of pergola over the top to keep off the mean midday sun. I'm no englishman, you see, and I leave it to you to determine if you feel that I make a canine impression. Do you recall the bench? Here is is a couple of days ago: I thought that you might like to see what I see when I sit there. I shall pan from left to right. If I turn my head to the left, parallel with my shoulder...this is what I see: Then I begin to rotate my head frontwards a little... Then I look downwards without rotating my head further and see the micro plot at my feet: I rotate my head so that I am looking straight ahead (just out of the frame [above], are the bird-feeding devices hanging in the trees). Rotating my head to the right, and looking down, I see another micro plot for shade plants. They are coming along quite well. That is whjat I see and if I were to step around the corner at this point...this would be the view. I offer this lagniappe: You can get your bearing by noticing the cluster of Heuchera's. It is still early days, but you can see that I will eventually have colour and it will be really easy on the eyes. I assume that you can recognize many of the plants visible. Actually, I find this interim display of green foliage sort of pleasing to look at already.
Very nice view, I can understand why taking breaks are a priority. I really like the chicken wire encasing the pole to aid vines, good idea.
Thank you for letting ME sit on the bench with you. I loved it just as much as all the rest of the Stewbies. Everything really looks great. I also love your garden shoe.....
Oh now you've got me going Sjeord. I'm longing to sit on that bench again chatting and enjoying a nice hot cuppa. :-D Ian and I miss you both and seeing your garden again makes us feel a little sad knowing that we won't be able to see you this year. Oh, before I forget, do you know the variety of that gorgeous Heuchera? I'd love to buy one just like it to add to my collection.
Thanks 4-G--good spotting. It works well. The Clematis has not been there for very long, but I am hoping that it will do well. Thank you DONNA-- It is a bit to pleasant there for my own good, if you know what I mean. heh heh heh. To bad you can't drop by and do just that. Ahhh, thanks C. I am tickled pink that you liked the view from the bench, WARE-- You were most welcome to sit and look. Hahaha...glad you liked the garden shoe. it is a rubber one in the form of a wooden klomp, or wooden shoe. I looked back at the piccy to see what shoes I had on that day and was shocked to see my knee...it looked mammoth. I couldn't understand why until I realized that I had on my knee-work trousers which have removable rubber pads in them to make knee work more comfortable. Hiya EILEEN-- Glad that you appreciated the thread, but was disappointed to hear that you guys would not be coming over this way this year. Ach wel, another time--- You and know that you folks are always welcome. Re: The Heuchera-- Tis a bonnie plant, innit. If I am not mistaken, it is the Heuchera 'Caramel'. Yup...it is the 'Caramel'. Good luck finding one. They are common over here, perhaps over there as well.
Thanks for the ID on the Heuchera Sjeord. Now I can order the exact one I want. I love its colour and it will make a nice contrast against my other plants.
Such a wonderful view from your bench Sjoerd! I always love the Forget-Me_Nots, their delicate blue blooms make me smile. Yours seem to be at their peak right now. I know it doesn't take too long until they get a little 'ratty' looking. Your garden is so far ahead of mine here in southern Ontario. We have just had a winter that doesn't want to go away ... still waiting for my first Crocus bloom! I was never a big fan of Heuchera but I REALLY like yours!
I'd be tempted to take too many breaks if I had a bench view like that! I love all the forget-me-nots. I've added a few to my garden this year, and now I see why you suggested to dedicate a section just for them... a sea of blue!
Don't mention it, EILEEN--Glad to help. They do indeed make a nice (and unexpected) contrast in my garden...they will in yours as well. I got them on sale when I was out combing the garden centre's here. I appreciate your comments, NETTY--You are right about the F-M-N's...they are in fact, just over their top. I will be soon pulling them up so I can clean the ground that they covered. Such a shame that your spring is late there. I hope your crocus' perform for you this year. Thanks so much, GF. Heh heh heh CHERYL-- Yes, it is difficult NOT taking breaks. I just glance over at the bench sometimes whilst I am busy breaking my back hand-weeding, and I am soon stretching my long legs and getting those hinges working again, as I stroll over to that bench. Glad that you see what I mean about a plot for them. They present best in a plot where they really do give the impression of a pool of water when seen with the naked eye. Thanks for your reaction.
I wish one day I can enjoy these wonderful pleasing and pleasant sight in person. It's beautiful! :-D
