It was such a nice day today, after the fog left, that we went to Crockett, TX. It's to the northeast of us. I guess we generally go south or south west when we go out. We hadn't been to Crockett. We got there about 11:30 and on the drive around the square we saw the Moosehead Cafe so we stopped to have lunch. It was very good.

There was an antique shop in the back so we looked around there. I saw something that I really liked but alas, it wasn't in our budget for today. We only bought lunch there.
After lunch we took a stroll around and dr found someone he knew and tried to talk to him. He wanted him to join the new, improved Blues Brothers Band but he declined. It was Lightnin' Hopkins, a well-known blues man in Texas.

We continued our stroll and took a picture of the Camp St. Cafe and Store. It was closed.

We passed this neat looking building which turned out to be a hotel and restaurant.

There was lots more to see. It's a beautiful town. I wish I had taken a picture of the church with all of the stained glass windows but we were back in the truck and there was no place to stop on that street. Maybe next time we will try to walk past it.

We stopped briefly at a grocery store and then returned home.

Dooley, you and dr had a very nice day for your drive to Crockett. My cousin lives in Crockett and on my visits, we have eaten at both The Moosehead Cafe and Camp St. Cafe ... both are very good. Glad you enjoyed your day. :stew2:

I think you'll have to take another trip to Crockett again soon Dooley. :-D I'd love to see the stained glass windows in the church. After all you have to try out the Camp St. Cafe store to see what the food is like there. ;)

    Re: nice

Nah, Crockett isn't in west Texas, it is just a couple of hours or so southeast of Dallas. Lots of pretty little towns in Texas. ;)

I love making day trips like that around the area.

    DR check out http://www.texasstaterr.com/
It is a very pretty trip thru part of east Texas and not too much further north from you than Crockett

Toni, we checked out that site the other night as we were considering going to Palestine, too. It will have to wait for another day.
Glenda, we saw a lot more of the town than these pictures show. We spent some time walking around too. We went to Bedias and Iola today to some yard sales. We found two dressers which we needed and a few flower pots and some other little things. Tomorrow we will stay home. dooley
