Yep its that time of year again when the tourists are all gone, the berries are done being picked, the fields are just waiting for a few more weeks to give up the goods and well, i'm bored now.

So what better way to pass the time than to get out there and take a nice long walk. Balder didn't go with me this time, he cut his paw and is limping to bad. Plus his hat the vet said he has to wear would of got in the way. He was better off staying home, where he can heal nicely.

So off i go down the hill.

    Should i go towards Alstad.

Or should i go past the marsh.

I think i'll go past the marsh this time, and get over that huge boulder and check out whats there. The tide is so far back now, and i actually have the time to explore a part of the fjord i never get to see. The tide us usally so far in you can't get to it. So yeah thats the way i'm going to go.

I'm about half way to where i want to go. I have to take the inland for just a few minutes to get over the boulders.

When i finally reach where i was headed, i found to my surprise an old boat house. I have never seen this before. I crawled all over it. Picked some really plump blueberries, that were soooo juicy, and sat here and had a good snack. They were probably the last of the blueberries on the whole island. Or at least it felt like it. Heres the boat house. I'll tell you in a bit about what i found out.

    A better view
    [IMG]

The huge boulder that still has the hook and eye in it was very visiable, but i didn't take a pic of that.

Well after i got my energy back by my little snack it was time to head back home. Yeah theres lots of rock climbing on these hikes sometime, but i don't mind, it beats the alternative of walking thru the fjord. Ice cold water!

So when i got back home i busted in Uncles house, and started to tell him about what i had "discovered". With him nodding agreement like i did discover the North Pole only to find out there was a Norwegian flag already there, he told me about the family who used to live there. They went visiting one winter for a week or so, he wasn't sure, but when they had some back, the ice from the fjord had pushed the home back over 6 meters or 18 ft. That was all that was left of the homestead, the boat house, because it was buried beneath the ice. So i asked when did this happen, he said it was like that when he was a boy,,,(he 90!!!) he said it was like that when his grandmother moved to the other end of the fjord,,,,Yikes, thats like way back in the mid 1800's! Ohhh man i felt like Amundsen.

So there ya go, my thrill for the day! Daily walks are back!

You live in a beautiful country, Biita. I so enjoyed the tour with your photos and the commentary on the old house. Thanks.

Another exhausting day with Biita, but a lovely day too. Thanks for the hike, I needed that.

I hope Balder's foot heals soon, I know it was hard for him to have to stay at home while you were out having fun.

wow... so many years left untouched & growing blueberries! It's good to know there's still places in the world where things just get left alone like that, it's a very peaceful thought.

I could feel a slight chill in the air and the fresh breeze playing on my face. Those blueberries were the best I've ever tasted and the views were spectacular. I was intrigued when we found the boathouse and could hardly keep up with you on the way back to your uncles house - you were sooooo excited!! When can we take another walk together?

Thanks all, It was good to get out and just roam.

Toni he had treats that i put next to him, and also i snuck out while he was sleeping,,,bad me!

KG, i live between 2 mountains, The lady which is actually our front, and the beast, which is the one you see most of the time in my pics. Thats where the fjord is. Its actually my back yard. We call it the front because thats the door we use the most. Our back door.

When something gets destroyed by nature, it doesn't take long for it to get covered up, because of the summers up here. There is close to 10,000 people on the island. The Lofotens is a series of islands. So really not alot of people. In winter most of the those people who do live here, go south. So even less in winter.

It is so peaceful here, and so untouched. Our island motto is "Wild and Wonderful"

What a fab walk. I scoffed the last raspberries on my allotment like you did those blueberries. They seem much sweeter than the summer ones. The sun looks very low in the sky over the fjord. It does look beautiful and makes me feel even more autumnal.

Ohhh the sun is very low now. Lots more shade,,,lol.

you know EJ i noticed that too, about the berries, they do taste sweeter now than the ones i picked when it was the "right" time to pick them. Maybe its the cooler temps that brings out the sweetness. Raspberries! Ohhh man, i love them, but to find a wild raspberry plant that hasn't been raided is impossiable up here. But i got 3 twigs that i am going to plant, from down south, and hopefully they will take. Their the wild raspberries. Cultivated ones won't grow up here.

I really like the mirrored landscape in your first photo. It's hard to see where the water starts. :D Your find is interesting too. I guess there are lots of similar sites along the coast since there is a lot of unpopulated space. When I was young we used to jump from rock to rock by the sea, and kept at it all day without falling once. I wonder at what age balance leaves us.

I really enjoyed your walk. It's been so dry here that things are brown and then we had some rain and all the weeds grew and it's all of a tangle now. When it dries we will have wildfire danger again. So, I'm glad you enjoyed your walk and shared it with us. dooley

I just like your narrated walks and trips, Biita. This opne was no exception. I was intrigued by the sad story of the folks loosing their homestead...as we know the force of nature cannot always be altered.

The lighting and the fall colours were splindid. I liked the old boat house remains and the tale that went along with it. Thanks again for your interesting post.
