Well its that time of year to start canning. With lots of cheap produce in the stores and heavy crops in the garden we have been canning a lot this weekend. treated myself to a new canner this year based on barbs suggestion. new canner ( photo / image / picture from Danjensen's Garden ) As you can see its slightly bigger than the old one Only problem we have is our electric stove doesn't heat it at all well, So will have to get a gas burner.. That said we still packed off some peaches and cherries. Canned peaches and cherries ( photo / image / picture from Danjensen's Garden ) And as i hate wasting anything we also made peach honey out of the peach skins. Must admit didn't expect anything great from it. BUT it tastes great and is highly recommended. Also did a batch of Salsa which we use in the winter to remind us of hot warm summers, when its -40c and SNOW!
Peach honey~ never heard of it :-o I will have to research, my hubby is "peach crazy" Your jars look beautiful! I know how much work went into it!
Congrats.... they sure look good. That Peach Honey sounds marvelous... maybe one day when my peach trees start producing I'll have to give it a try.
Congratulations on that canner, you will not regret that INVESTMENT...(I would never relegate that to just a purchase). You will appreciate that for years to come. All the jars look great!
thanks all, the photos never seem to represent the effort heres the link for peach honey. http://www.pickyourown.org/peachhoney.htm one of my favorite preserve sites. Thanks carolyn my thoughts exactly on the canner. moderator's note: corrected Chatspeak see point 3.2 of usage rules
Danjensen, Congrats on your new investment. The newly processed jars look good too. We had lobster this evening so tomorrow I will make lobster broth with all the shells and can it. That's a nice thing to have around the house in the Winter. Barb in Pa.
