my backyard patio has a new look. ( photo / image / picture from Tina's Garden ) the rose in the left are artificial. Hopefully soon this corner will have a real plant (what do you suggest?). Please ignore the boxes in the room ( photo / image / picture from Tina's Garden )
ooohhhh cool :-D I'd suggest a mixed pot of coleus (for color) and maybe some kind of a viney thing for texture... Or a huge pot of geraniums!!!!!!
fake plants are illegal A gardener with an artificial plant? You can do better than that. What to use? I would probably use, from your photo and western exposure, a Hoya carnosa variegate.
Which direction is your porch facing? N., S., E., or W.? Any trees or buildings that block sunlight? Your answers will help us understand the amount of sunlight it gets in there and narrow down what you can grow in there.
I'd look for a cheap evergreen shrub/tree (some cyprus have nice forms) for year round structureheight and add hanging annuals for color around the base of the evergreen. Then you can add smaller containers around the base. Lol, oh yeh, I've done that..a couple of times..
Tina, Is this all concrete? Are you looking for perennial or annual container ideas or permanent in the ground ideas? (In the picture the flowers don't look artificial, either )
Carolyn - Yes, this part of the patio is all concrete. I am thinking of a perennial growing in a container. LOL! Well, thats why I did'nt take close up pictures of the roses
What zone are you in? Flowering, foliage, conifer, more succulents... any ideas what you would like to put there or are you just looking for suggestions? Something to grow on a trellis. I tend to stay away from perennial in containers because they can be expensive and you don't want to let them dry out and die on you. If you start out smallish and inexpensive ( so you can see if you really want the perennial upkeep) you might want to start with cyclamen (zones 4-7) or coral bells (which there are many new varieties to choose from) and annual millet for height, it comes in a green and a burgundy. and maybe an annual vine to trail such as sweet potato or a perennial ivy.
I am in zone 7. I was thinking of getting a grass, but you are right. I might start with something small. Thanks Carolyn.
