Just as it got daylight I looked out at the birdfeeder and there were 14 doves on the ground under it. By the time I took this pic there were only about 12. But there was also a cardinal and some Juncos.
I own 3 acres of land, but only mow about an acre. The rest I let grow up naturally. This provides a natural habitat and food for the birds and animals. The big bean pods off of the locust trees, we pile up at brush piles. The squirrels and rabbits eat the beans in the winter. If you go look at the piles when there is snow on the ground, you see rabbit tracks going into the brush piles where they are living.
I just love seeing all the birds in the winter when everything is so dreary. I especially love to see the Cardinals. Their red color really stands out against the snow
I have a lot of Mourning doves too...they sure are eating a lot this winter...I have to buy food every other week for them...I have the cardinals coming now too but I can never catch them when I have my camera in hand...
