My Hens and chicks are starting to sprout and flower...is it OK to cut the stem that is protruding off so the hen doesn't die? I did it to a couple of them but I thought someone might know more than I do.Thank you..

I've never thought about doing that, I've just presumed the hen would die off anyway. Please let me know if it works.

Sorry, the rosette will almost certainly die off any way. It has used up its energy producing the flower spike even if you remove it, it is too late. Why bother? The flowers are very pretty anyway. Sometimes, on some types, if you lie the old flower stalk along the ground and pin it down, new rosetttes appear along its length. We also get a fair number of seedling ones from leaving the flower heads on.

As kids we called the blooming one the Rooster.

It will die off, it was meant to be.
