Looking forward to fall and planting some bulbs for spring!

I can find very few shade tolerant bulbs. Have only found grape hyacinth and daffodils. They may get a little more sun without the leaves on the trees, but I'm on the NW side of the house.

Does anyone have any recommendations for the Northeast?

Would it do any good to compost in the fall? Will it last through the next spring/summer planting season?

    Thanks!
    :D

Galanthus will take shade as will Bluebells (Hyacinthoides non-scripta).

Do you have moist shade or dry shade? light shade or heavy shade?

I have regular Hyacinths in the woods (light shade, I would guess)and they seem to do ok there. I planted them 20 years or more ago and I still see a few, when I manage to make it back there in the spring, where the groundhog hasn't dug them out. Squills should do fine, too.

Are you looking for spring color, does it need to be bulbs? Primrose do nice if they have moist shade.

I did an Advanced Search through the GardenStew database and came up with a few that meet your criteria...shade, zone 6, perennial (a search for bulbs came up empty), Spring blooming,

If you want to refine the search even more. ..i.e. bloom color, plant height, moist/dry, etc....just add/change the criteria in the search form following the list of plants.
