Okay, I'm going to whine for a second:
Every year around June 15th my allergies decide to kick out the jams. Full-tilt handkercheif boogie woogie, eyes swelled shut, choking in the middle of the night, head about to explode type stuff. Have you ever been itchy inside your lungs? If so, what do you do about it?

I've been on benadryl, allegra, zyrtec, claritin... with every kind of nasal spray, inhaler and eyedrop thrown on top of all that. Is there anything that works for you? Sometimes I'll find something that does okay for a bit, but mid-June till mid-July is still severe.

I've also noticed I become more allergic to things that don't usually bother me during this time such as: grass, cats, citric acid, wool, insect bites etc. Oh please, tell me there's a magic cure. If not, at least tell me I don't need to pick out a plastic bubble to live in quite yet. :)

If you want to go organic, then head to the health food store and ask for Ma Huang, its like ephedra, it will dry up everything. Its the chinese version of it. I know ephedra is illegal in the states but i'm pretty sure they still sell ma huang, its not as strong and ofcourse its not mixed with any other ingredients to give you the ephedrine compound, that makes you race around like crazy. You can get it in pill form or to make a tea. Other than that, i don't know. If your allergy has turned to infection, ma haung will do nothing for you, you need antibiotics then.

Something that is an excellent astringent for the lungs is Thyme. It goes in and clears the lungs out. But holy crap, you got to be tough to drink it. But it works. Make a tea with the leaves and drink. a few times a day.

    Good Luck!!

Something you can try is through the year eat honey that is made locally near you. This will allow you to ingest the pollens that are making you sick in the summer. This process takes a bit of time to help but it can help reduce and eliminate your seasonal allergies.

Randy and Amanda take Oil of Oregano. Randy uses the drops and Amanda takes it in gel caps.

You poor thing! :'( My husband suffers all year long so I sympathize with you. One time, many years ago he went to an allergist and the doctor told him not to worry about it, it was something he would probably outgrow by the time he was 70 or 80! what a wise guy. I'd never heard of the honey thing before but I like it!

We all suffer in our house and this time of year is noisy and I spend a lot of time washing and ironing cotton hankies! We all use Piriton which we have by the bucketload because my daughter suffers from anaphalaxis and eggs and shellfish would be fatal. It works great on the kids, but only really dulls the effects for an hour or 2 for me and the old man. I don't get itchy lungs, I get and itchy roof of my mouth and it drives me BONKERS!

WOW! Thanks so much, I've got a lot to try. I'm especially excited about Ma Huang and the excuse to eat lots of local honey!

As Toni said, I've been using Oil of Oregano for allergies. It works well, but it's also very strong. If anyone asks me what it tastes like, I just tell them it tastes like burning. The Simpson's fans in the group will understand the reference. The oregano started working the first day, but not fully. After about three days things started clearing up nicely and I notice it if I miss a dose. I'm going to add Propolis and Myrrh as in immune booster. I recommend a combination of the two for complete relief.

    Here is my story:
I have had asthma and allergies all my life and things have been getting worse. I started seeing a homeopathic MD here in Scottsdale for gallbladder issues. I was scheduled to have surgery to remove it for horrible abdominal pain that ended me in the ER several times and the first time via ambulance. They determined I had sludge and a couple of stones.....hang on this is going to the allergy thing!
So they tested me for some food allergies and found I am allergic to Wheat(Gluten, Casein(dairy)and Soy. Well there is soy in everything and things you wouldn't even imagine! I completely changed my diet, excluding all of these things from it (very difficult) BUT, not only did my gallbladder clear up and I cancelled the surgery but so did my allergies. I mean amazingly so! I hardly ever use my inhaler, I've gone off singular and I can walk on windy days which in the past I would have been on prednisone and antibiotics every spring. NOT THIS YEAR! I would consider food allergies too. I feel that my body can better handle the regular allergies since it isn't dealing with all the food allergies. Good luck, whatever you do!! Kathy

I used to work with a women who has a son withte same issues. But he was 2 1/2 and so violent that they were going to put him on all sorts of anti physcotic meds! she chose to get him tested for allergies and went to a homeopathic doctor. they removed all the soy and wheat products from his diet and he improved. Soy can be found in everything including other veg. they genetically alter fruits and veg with it to make it hardier, bug and disease resistant. They grow all their own fruit and veg not because you never know where it is lurking. It is also starting to be known that too much soy in women can cause all sorts of cancers.

Glad to hear that you found this out and have recovered from your ailments.

Thanks Evil Roy! Will do. I say the same Simpson's phrase about badly mixed adult beverages. :)

Something I noticed that cleared me right up with nasal allergies: sea water. I don't reckon it's on the store shelf, but I've always had nasal allergies: pollen, dust, cats, grass. I seem to always have some amount of benadryl in my veins. Years ago, we went to Key West for vacation & went snorkeling. As often happens, I got sea water up my nose. Guess what? It made the drainage go away! I was surprised! I asked my doctor about it. he said, the bromide in the sea water is what did it.

Also, for drying up during a reaction, I found eucalyptus oil to work great! Had one of those fancy paid-for massages years ago & the masseuse had this towel hanging underneath my face. She dabbed it with eucalyptus oil and the vapors rising up cleared out my nasal passages. I bought some of the stuff to sniff if I ever had a bad allergy attack. It works pretty darn well.

As for prevention, I do not know of anything that works specatacularly, but I think taking those shots from a doctor would work. The honey idea sounds intriguing too!

But I understood, the commercially available "ocean water" lacked bromide, which is what my doc said did the trick. If I could get me some bromide, I'd stick my face init every morning!

Oh, that's too bad. You definitely live in the wrong place for a daily or even monthly dip in salt water. I just did a google for bromide....you might not want to stick you face in it very often if at all, it can have some nasty side affects.
