Hud a very luxurious weekend and managed to spend both days on the plot. And to make things even better, the whole family joined me for some of today so we got masses done. By the time I left this evening, the plots were looking great, all the strimming and mowing done, nearly everything that needed harvesting had been picked, deer fencing up and generally neat and tidy. ( photo / image / picture from EJ's Garden ) Aren't these just the cutest cucumbers ever! My friend from the US sent them to me and I believe they are called watermelon cucumbers. Tiny, but perfectly formed and yes, they do kinda taste of watermelon. ( photo / image / picture from EJ's Garden ) These are James carrots that he sowed back in the spring and pulled to have for tea tonight.
James must feel so proud of those carrots of his. I know he'll think they taste better than any carrots he's ever had before and rightly so. :-D I've never seen anything like those watermelon cucumbers before EJ. I love the taste of regular cucumbers but they don't like me. I wonder if my stomach could tolerate those tiny ones though? Do you know if you can buy the seeds over here? It's a good feeling when you get everything tidy and restored to its former glory isn't it? I hope you had a long, hot soak in the bath after all your hard work.
Great work EJ. I found some info on the tiny cucumbers. They are Creeping Cucumber (Melothria pendula) The little fruit, which are called berries, can be a strong laxative so don't eat very many at a time.
Sounds like a very productive day EJ! I've never seen those watermelon cucumbers before...they look like something my kids would like to grow.
I sure do like the looks of those veggies, EJ. It sounds like you had a really good day at the lotties. I can imagine that you liked having the family there with you for a time. The carrots look delicious. Show your filled jam jars when you do the jamming. I've been working like crazy getting all those plums converted into jam. It turned out nice and reddish. Your blog made nice reading and looking. I had not seen any entries for a while, so there was plenty to read. Who's been the busy bee then.
I do like carrots pulled right from the ground. I didn't get mine planted this spring but might just have to plant a row soon for fall harvest. Those are cute little cucumbers, too. I picked three zucchini and some tomatoes today. dooley
