I have family members travelling around in Spain at the moment. They sent me an e-mail with two fotos of something that I have never seen there. These gardens are located somewhere near Jávea in the Provence of Alicante. I know that many Spaniards have huertos on their property, but this is municipal, I believe...as the allotments are in the median of two roads/streets. Have a look: ...and this closer shot of the gate: It is a shame that they did not take the time to get better shots, but it is at least interesting to see what is going on in another country.
I agree as I hate to see wasted space that could be used to grow fruit, veggies or flowers. Hats off to the Spanish for their ingenuity.
It is interesting to see what's going on there. According to my folks travelling about there--where there were no gardens...there was bare, lifeless earth shining through. TONI--yes, it a good and sturdy-looking fence. I wish I could recognize what was growing there. My fam . are not gardners and did not recognize the plants. JERRY--Yes it is good to see such a use of a median...in Spain, they just left the bare earth and did not plant anything at all there, so the plant growth would have looked quite nice in contrast to the bare earth. I agree, CHERYL--Someone has earned a brownie point there. Absolutely EILEEN-- I wonder if they couldn't have gotten some orange trees to plant there. The place was somewhat close to Valencia, and you have no doubt heard of those delicious "Valencia Oranges", right? I bought and ate some when I was there. They were so good.
