I planted my Alpine strawberries from seed this spring. I put them into their garden spot about three weeks ago. They were about two inches high at the time. They are not dying off but they don't appear to be growing either. I used composted sheep manure as a fertilizer. Now I am wondering if I should sprinkle a little 12-12-12 granual fertilizer around them to see if they would pick up. Where I purchased them said that they would produce the first year. I am getting doubtful now that they will. Any suggestions? Christina
They need some warm sunshine to help them along so if you're having lots of wet weather they probably won't be doing too much. Mine tend to remain the same size when it's dull and damp outside but with sunshine they sprout and flourish.
OK thanks for the response,Eileen. Yes, we are having a lot of heavy rains week after week. Seems no end. So, I will patiently wait for some sunny weather to see what happens.
Almost everything is on hold due to the cloudy, wet, damp rainy days. A couple of sunny weeks with warm temperatures and all the plants will be happier, people too. Hang in there and we can sing the song from the play 'Annie.' Jerry The sun'll come out Tomorrow Bet your bottom dollar That tomorrow There'll be sun!
