It was good size bush,100's of blooms on it. got just enough rain to fill blooms. Broke at base 5-6 branches. hummers and bees still in the blooms. Lots have fallen off.
No wind-Just enough rain to fill all the many blooms. Branches about 5 inches snapped at base. See if I can get camera to work. Dh took picture before.
This could be a tragedy, but it also could be an opportunity! Take the broken branches, cut off any blooms/buds, make 5" to 6" sticks of the branches and remove the bottom 2" of leaves, and put them in a pot with moist soil or with a 50/50 mix of perlite and vermiculite. Cover with a plastic bag with a few holes poked in it, or with a 2 liter clear plastic bottle with the bottom cut off, and you have an instant greenhouse with Rose of Sharon cuttings rooting. Rose of Sharon roots easily from cuttings, and you'll have several to plant or give away in the fall.
I will give it a try. this time plant away from house .Rained hard enough went over the gutters-just for short time. It was planted right by bath-room window. Dh and cat could look at hummers in it.
