This year the Amaryllis from my sister not only had beautiful blooms, they are now doing an encore presentation.
They arrived just before the holidays and they took their time getting to bloom. This picture was taken Feb 12th.

After they died off, two had seed pods and while it would be interesting to try and get seeds We were really more interested in the next group.

So I eventually cut off the stalks with the pods. The bulb without the seed pod took off leaving the others mumbling in the starting gate.

The season will extend itself well into April.

The pods? :) I stuck them in water. Who knows?

Wow Jerry, they look amazing! And so healthy too.
One of mine is also in bloom for the 2nd time ( the Picotee), but unfortunately it's not at all healthy. All four, including the Picotee, have some kind of fungal disease that was already on them when I bought them. Thought I'd got rid of it, but no, it's back with a vengeance. None of them will probably survive long enough to move with me to my new house :(
All the more reason to buy new ones at the end of this year!

Gosh Jerry you must have really green fingers. I've never managed to get an amaryllis to flower twice. I'll look forward to pics of the second blooming.

A very Beautiful color...it seems like every time I buy some amaryllis, I end up with little bug flying around in here...I think they have to be in the soil. I didn't have them before I got the plants and this has happened a few years in a row....have you noticed anything?

No, no bugs. It may have to do with the source of your bulbs. My sister has been sending bulbs for several years and the bulb company does a good job. No bugs. :) Spectacular flowers.

Beautiful! I never knew a bulb would have enough energy to bloom two consecutive times. Very interesting.:like:
