Each bulb will be cut into 4 pieces. Then it's off to Tabula Rasa for a mass planting of red amaryllis.

Such beautiful large bulbs-one would be somewhat hesitant to do this to them. But it does work and now I'll have 200 instead of 50. But it takes 2 yrs. for them to get back to blooming again.

    Wow. Interesting IDEA.
    But you really need 200?

The more the better. I have another bed of amaryllis propagated like this that numbers about 50. And some in containers that add up to about 75. Plus the ones at my mother's yard.

In all, I have about 350 bulbs.

Tabula Rasa will be quite spectacular. And for that to happen, you must have something to be spectacular. So yes, large numbers of plants will be required.

    I understand :)
As I only grow these in pots, I quite resent them when they multiply.
I'd rather have the same number, but bigger and full of blooms :)

I didn't, either. Maybe I will try this.

Carolyn---This is an idea that I will add to my mental list of "when I retire" possibilities.
