My DH was supposed to be going to dinner with the big bosses that flew over for meetings. He just called to inform me that a) I am expected to attend the dinner now and b)they will be arriving here in three hours for appetizers before everyone goes to dinner. Has he lost his mind? I am grubby from gardening, the house is not spotless and I have to come up with a menu. Please keep your fingers crossed for me- this is a lot to pull off in three hours. (And fit in time for a shower and dressing.) I think I can do an antipasto tray, a fruit and dip for the fruit tray and some hummus, things like that. Wish me luck! (Where's my kitchne witch when I need her???)

Good luck, you'll manage admirably! I think your appetizer menu sounds very good. *checking the flight schedule for Kuwait*

Oh dear there are times when men just don't think aren't there? I'm sure everything will be fine though as we women are great at multi-tasking. :-D Enjoy the dinner and do let us know how things turned out.

I have a little more time than originally planned- a whole extra hour! At least the house is in shape, not as spotless as I would like but that's the breaks. Almost done cooking, dove in the shower and just have final prep to do. Thankfully all that gardening made my walled gardens shine so I will stick tea lights in the lanterns on the wall and hope people enjoy it out there.
I think I deserve an Amazon shopping spree for this- I have a whole list of books I can't wait to read.
Thanks for your kind words. I am sure he thanks you too- the urge to strangle him has lessened...

I read somewhere that "murder" is a more frequently thought idea than "divorce" in marriages. :D Well done tbl, go shopping and enjoy yourself!

Many years ago Ruth Graham, wife of evangelist Billy Graham, was being interviewed and was asked about the secret for a long marriage like theirs. The reporter asked if she had ever thought about divorce in all those years. Her answer was "Murder yes, but divorce never" ;)

What a surprize you had, TBL! Is this what they mean when they say, ` when the going gets tough, the tough get going`?
It sounds like you are going to manage this surprize fine in spite of the short notice.
Be sure and post some pics, if you took any.
    Well done, you!

All's well that ends well, everything was a success. I even managed not to fall asleep at the end of the long, late dinner. The guests were wonderful, I really enjoyed meeting them. And everyone raved about my gardens (thanks to all the advice I have received here)! If someone had told me two summmers ago that I would have lovely, candlelit gardens, I would have suggested that they enter an asylum immediately. It really was a nice evening and he was so grateful that it made my mad rush yesterday worth every minute. I am giving myself the day off- almost. He asked if I could make some cannolis for this evening so I am making some ricotta right now. I have a day and most of an evening to myself so I am gathering up some books, some magazines and lounging outside this afternoon. The weather is rewarding me as well- it is bright and sunny but not blazing hot and no dust in sight! Lazy me!

I forgot to add that I will be posting pictures as soon as my Internet connection speeds up a little. That has been another frustration but I have almost got it fixed.
