We had an exciting day but it wasn't for everyone. Our neighbor's son was sick and stayed home from school. He'll be 14 in February so his mom let him stay by himself. We had gone into town to deliver some shopping bags to a lady and had just gotten home and went outside to drag wood from across the road. We cut it and burn it in our stove. Down the hill came police cars, sirens roaring and stopped in front of us. Seems they had a 9ll call about a breakin in progress and it involved a child. I pointed at the neighbors house and told them Seth was home sick and alone in the house. Seems he was in the bathroom when he heard someone in the house. He armed himself with a can of OFF spray and a walking stick, called 911 and his mom and went out to confront the person. He did call out for them to go away first. When he got out of the bathroom the person was running up the stairs. Seth followed (brave boy or foolish person). The guy went out and upstairs bedroom window and down a ladder. He picked up the ladder, threw it over the fence, jumped over the fence, picked up the ladder and ran across the field and into the woods behind the house. This must have happened just before we got home for the police to get there so quick. The police searched the surrounding area with dogs but didn't find anyone. Seth said he was tall and skinny and dressed in black but he only saw the back of him. They questioned everyone who lived in the area but no one had seen anyone carrying a ladder. Would you break into someone's house and bring your own ladder? Would you break into an upstairs window when there are downstairs window on the back of the house, too. How do you think he was planning on carrying the ladder and whatever he found to carry from the house if Seth had not been home? Strange in the least. Glenda came down later this afternoon to talk about it. She'd heard it on the scanner. She is staying with her son, Kevin and his friend Linda and not at her house which is why no one answered the door at her house. She said she is feeling better but is on medication so she can't stay by herself or drive. She can't do much without being tired and resting a lot. Eileen she said he brother had just gotten around to giving her the card you sent and she's about to "Kill" him. He put it in his truck to take to her and it must have slid down and he forgot it. End of story. dooley
Gosh Seth was very brave for such a young lad. Thank goodness the burglar didn't turn on him!! I hope nothing was taken from the house and that the police manage to trace whoever it was. It's good to know that Glenda managed over to your home and I'm glad to hear that she's staying with Kevin and Linda. Fingers crossed that she continues to recover and will be able to do more with each passing week. Men!! Ian has forgotten to pass on, or post, cards before now. A couple of months ago I found some of last years Christmas cards in the boot of the car that he hadn't delivered. At least Glenda, finally, got hers.
Dooley, I'm so glad you and your hubby were safely out of danger's way! Seth seems like a young man who can take care of himself when necessary. Again, I thank you for the information about Glenda. I sincerely hope she continues to recover, and am very glad that she has someone to look after her while she needs a bit of help.
It's good to hear that Glenda is up and about. I hope she continues to improve. Bring a ladder to a burglary is like bringing wooden crates to a bank robbery. Did anyone ever hear about the M & M robber? A robber after stealing the contents of the cash register also stole a large bag of M & M's.....A bag with a hole in it...... a bag that leaked......The police followed the trail of candy to a local house where an arrest was made.
