Frank, you ought to start an area just for reports of weird weather and how gardeners are dealing with it all!
I've lived here all my life, and until a couple years ago, had never heard of a tornado in Western Washington. Then a barn just south of me got ripped apart by one. At about noon today, in a town an hour south of me, a tornado dug a 4 mile swath through a fairly densely populated area, destroying someones home along the way. For those of you whove been here long enough to remember LexxiVexx (whatever happened to her anyway?) this happened quite near her home.
Boggles my fuzzy ol' mind. :(

I hope no-one was killed or injured by these tornadoes. There certainly is some weird weather popping up all over the world nowadays.

We've got wilder and wetter weather now than 20 years ago, but it has been both better and worse before. The vikings had warmer climate, and between 1300-1600 there were some very cold spells.

Hope nobody was hurt during the tornado.

That's like a few days ago we had a high near 70 deg. Everbody was talking about it being caused by global warming. But they didn't say very much about the old record for that date in 1907. And we only beat the old record by 1 degree !

I've experienced a few tornado's in my days living over there,,, but honestly, CritterPainter,, i have never heard of them being in Washington State,, now that is bizarre. Geez i hope all is okay.

Heres a strange one for you,, The Artic with no snow. We should of had massive amounts of snow by now,, at least snow an melt, snow an melt,,, but just one snow fall, that happened back in Nov.

Guess the world is going crazy huh.

A lot of what is happening now with the weather, has happened before. But with the expertise in weather reporting and instaneously reporting of it, we now hear about tornadoes while they are still on the ground. It used to be you read about it in the newspaper 2 or 3 days later. Now you can watch it on TV or the Internet as it's happening. I think part of it is due to more people seeing it immediatly it just semms like more of it is going on.

Hope everyone in it's path is safe.

I found this website that lists all the tornadoes that have happened in the 48 contiguous states and surprisingly there have been several in Washington state over the years, first one in 1916.

Hate tornados. They are not selective in their destruction. Just went through one yesterday in the hallway of my home with pillows over my head. My kids did the drill at school. I will never get use to them. Check national news, my state made it and local newsmen were reporting all yesterday in my area. My oldest daughter slept through in her apartment in the state's capital (MS). go figure.

    Wow, great site Toni!
Yep, weather is a very cyclical thing- I think people come up with reasons that have to do with human action simply because of the basic need to feel that if we caused it, then we can change it. It's a good need, and has driven many advances in technology, but there are simply geologic and atmospheric cycles outside our sphere of influence. It helps to talk about it, tho.
It appears that, although many folks have great stories to tell now, noone was physically harmed by the tornado. A rowing club lost everything, tho. Buildings are splinters. And trees on cars is not a pretty sight.
