I heat mainly with wood. I have baseboard electric but to keep my electric bill as low as possible I use wood. I have 3 cirds of wood put up so far, cut and split and under cover. And that is just from cleaning up after storms this spring and summer. I still have room for 3 more cords. I have about a cord that is cut but not split. It's under cover where it can dry out. Wood heats you 3 times for the cost. Once when you cut it, once when you split it and once when you burn it! :D On average my heating bill costs me about $50 per season.

Gosh is it that time of year already?!! You're doing well if you already have three cords done and another half way there.

That sounds like you really work hard to keep up enough wood supply.I wish I could heat with wood but nope.We hve high electic bills because of the heat in Texas. Its hard to stay cool even at night here.

You are doing well Capt. We had some left over from last year which I have moved to make room for some new stuff. So far we have only added the wood from one apple tree. Funny how I think about summer all winter and winter in the summer! I want to be prepared so I'd better get to it.

    You are amazing Captain Kirk

Already getting ready for the next winter. I do the same here, though I do not have half as much as yours. I have seen your previous loads of wood from the threads that have been posted and I must add that you do work very hard. :smt023 Like you say - heating three times.

I also heat up with wood to keep electric bills as low as possible. :stew1:

I hated using wood in our fireplace when we lived at the other house..it is so dirty but like you said if you have the wood it is cheaper to use...My dogs would chew on the pieces we brought in before we burned it so that didn't help with the mess.It is kind of funny..we would bring wood in and a little later we would see a mosquito flying around... If you have to buy wood I am not sure how economical it is...my mom likes to dry her house out from the rain and it cost her 5 dollars for a small bundle..it burns up so fast too.

Just think you are saving money and making muscle....lucky you...I tried swinging the axe a few times and it isn't for me...Its great if you have good health and can do it...Keep up the good work..Don't work too hard...you have to have time to enjoy yourself too. Summer will be gone before we know it...LOL

I use a hydraulic wood splitter. I can split a cord of wood in about 2 hrs. with it. I also have a wood burner, not a fireplace. It's a lot cleaner than a fireplace. The cat loves the wood heat. He gets on his bed behind the stove and goes into a coma for hrs. at a time. Even if you have to buy firewood from a supplier, it still comes out cheaper than gas or fuel oil. At least it is around here.

A hydraulic wood splitter would of helped us...we are 2 people that never did that type of work...maybe not the best techniques either. But just carrying it is work...at least I know you will be nice and toasty this winter...Sherry

Yep Gator, when you burn wood, it only puts the same amount of carbon into the air that it used when growing. So it is carbon neutral! Now if I could make my car run on wood, I would be all set!
