Not my fault though. My children are very good at entertaining themselves. About a week ago they were helping me out at the stables. When we got home I changed my riding gear for gardening gear (old riding gear mostly ) and went outside through the back door. Sitting on our terrace was a jam jar full of frog spawn, hand carried from a pond by the stables to our garden. Now, what to do?!? A life's a life, even though it's just frog spawn... I wanted to call the girls and tell them to get digging but my darling husband had had an inkling of what was going on when they asked for a jam jar in the morning. We've had water features planned for years, and that day my husband had decided to try and make the one planned for the north side. This is what it looks like: Since I worry about small animals falling in and drowing I've added a piece of concrete edging stone. Not very decorative, but rather this than drowned mice, hedgehogs or whatever: My husband's planning another solution, and it involves plexiglass. Gotta luv'im! I'm also the proud owner of a water plant. It's still sitting on the veranda trying to get used to the temps here. I'll place it in the pond some time next week. I wanted a water lily but since this little pond's got a lot of shade I'll have to wait for the next pond project. We've had it planned for about ten years, so maybe we'll get it made this year. Or next year. Who's in a hurry?
Water features are good, I have had two in my back yard for more than 20 years and no drownings yet. Ponds provide hours of entertainment, birds, chipmunks, all sorts of creatures visit for a drink. Water bugs skate about during the day and frogs serenade at night. Ponds provide a home for a multitude of flowers. There is always something different. You will enjoy your new water feature. Jerry
Great effortDroopy....or should I say, your man. He put that little reflecting pond together in record time and it is such a tidy job too! That was thoughtful of you to put that little escape option in. When will you plant your water plant. How's the frog spawn? Who knows, you may get some newts or salamanders in there as well.
Thanks all for liking our little water pond. Netty, Yikes! Jerry, we've got a couple of cats that will eat anything they can get their paws on, so I just hope the animals or birds keep their distance. Sjoerd, the water plant's doing well. It's a floating plant so I just plumped it in. We've got tadpoles. Newts and salamanders don't live around here. Thanks DB. I've learnt that when my husband and my children team up against me I've got no say in the matter.
