Last night Mimi and I, along with a friend were on our way to a Christmas Dinner Dance. I hit a deer. I had slowed to about 35 give or take, as I entered town. She slid and tumbled across the road, and up the shoulder 15 or 20 feet. She stopped just as we passed her, and I saw her moving. I backed up to the spot where she lay, but she had gone. No sign of her. No one in the car was hurt, just allot of alarm, confusion and concern. The car seemed to be running ok, so we proceeded on to the dance. Once at the restaurant we looked things over, there were no fluids leaking out, no unusual noises, and it drove fine, so we went on in to the dinner dance. The drive home was uneventful. This morning I moved the car out and looked it over in the daylight, and found nothing further. We drove to town this morning, and everything was fine. Just one more event here in 2009 to make this a year to remember. It is a surprise she got up and left the scene.Your car will need to be fixed but its great know one was hurt.
Good thing you weren't driving too quickly Tom. Hitting a deer any faster would cause some serious damage to the deer, your car and possibly you or your passengers. Hopefully that deer will be more cautious near the road now.
It could have been so much worse. Thank goodness your car isn't too bad. Recently I saw a deer running across 6 lanes of traffic in broad daylight ...and near a shopping mall. Fortunately all the cars missed. They show up anywhere during hunting season ...trying to get away from the hunters. Glad you are all OK.
We had an incident with a deer just a few weeks ago. Thankfully when it dashed out in front of us we managed to miss it. The silly thing then ran in front of us again only in the opposite direction. It certainly makes your heart leap when this happens unexpectedly doesn't it? So glad that no-one was hurt Tom and your car wasn't too badly damaged. I hope the deer is fine as well and has learnt its lesson about crossing roads when there are cars about.
Glad to hear everyone was okay. We almost hit a deer once, I don't know how we didn't. The deer either put it in over-drive or leaped over the car, very scarey.
Goodness, Glad to hear no-one was hurt. We have many deer around here too. sometimes they'll even cross on our property here as they're coming out of the woods at nite. So anywhere we go away from the house we always have to watch for deer.
There are a lot of deer here. I almost hit one a couple of weeks ago. The truck in front of me slowed down so I did too of course. If he hadn't slowed so I had to I would have hit it. It turned at the last minute and jumped back into the field. They sure can damage your car if you hit it at any speed. dooley
I almost hit a deer early one morning (it was still dark out) a few months ago...I hit my brakes and missed by a good couple of yards, thank goodness Ive never seen a deer on our road before (or since) but there is a herd that lives in the small airfield across the major road just down the street.
