Earlier on I thought my Ficus Pumila or Creeping Fig was English Ivy and now this beautiful pine tree. Daintree Pine ( photo / image / picture from KK Ng's Garden ) I have 3 of these beautiful pines planted in my front yard and I tought that it is a native tropical pine with no relation to the casurina. Until yesterday when I was asked what is the name of the tree and I was able to give a firm reply. Just imagine, I already had them for more than 15 years!! After checking with Google, I was really surprised that it is not a native and is related to the casurina. It is the Daintree Pine from Daintree, Queensland Australia. Cones ( photo / image / picture from KK Ng's Garden ) Only 1 plant produces cone while the other 2 had not produced any.
It sure is very nice to look at. The shade of green is really very comforting to the eyes - I bet some birds also would be nesting in this tree from time to time.
Its always exciting when you find out the name of something that you have been wanting to know for a long time. I really like those cones.
Thanks S-H, but sad to say that the birds prefer to nest in my house roof instead of the trees. Cuatro-gatos well said, thanks! It is indeed exciting FlowerFreak22 and the cones is a real nuisance when walking around bare-footed. Thanks Gfreiherr, glad you like it. The pine cones are great for Christmas decoration but a pain when mowing the lawn!!
Nice looking tree, KK. The colour and shape are quite nice. I can see that thoise cones might give you peoblems with mowing. They look to be compact and hard, rather than loose and open.
I agree....beautiful tree. I agree that pinecones can be a bother if you don't pick them up off of the ground. I had the same problem with pears at our other house....the tree was loaded with pears and bees that loved to drill holes into them because they were so sweet...we decided to get away from pear, apple and peach trees at this home.
I can imagine what you mean Sherry8, my mum used to have a star fruit tree in her house and some kind of insect just love to drill holes in them. The ground around the plant would be terrible if the drop fruits were not removed.
I love the tree photo. It reminds me of Blue Spruce .I would love to have a Star Fruit Tree.I think you took a great pine cone photo.
