Had to take the laptop back to Walmart and get a new one. Did a straight exchange. It started to do strange things. I called support and while the gal was trying to trouble shoot the problem, it started doing things on it's own. She said that it needed to be repaired and I should send it back to the factory. I told her that it was only 6 days old and that it was going back to Walmart. So I took it back and got another one. I think that the other one was an older version of windows 8 as I had to download version 8.1. This one had version 8.1 preloaded on it. The start screen is totally different than the first one, and it came with different apps on it. And it works a lot better too!
Whatever version of Windows you are running, it will (as we all only know to well) eventually crash and burn within 2 years (or even 2 days under certain conditions). At which point you'll have to reinstall everything. So the only solution that will also protect you from viruses as well - Is DEEP FREEZE... Here is the link for it: http://www.faronics.com/en-uk/ And these are some of the alternates available on the market: http://www.fortresgrand.com/products/cls/cls.htm http://www.centuriontech.com/smartshield.aspx http://www.horizondatasys.com/en/produc ... roductId=2 So without any such protection, nearly all PCs which are unfortunate enough to be running Windows - Will eventually crash and leave us with a major headache... There are a few other applications too, which very quickly restore our original operating system in a few seconds from a hidden partition. So these make for another extremely useful aid when we encounter failures due to some custommade virus and/or trojan. http://www.shadowdefender.com/ http://www.farstone.com/software/restore-it.php http://www.horizondatasys.com/en/produc ... roductId=1
A couple of friends of mine have learned the hard way that the special prices on computers at WalMart are for refurbished computers. One friend sat in line overnight for a special price and had to replace it two times before giving up and buying an actual new one from another store.
They say they (have to Put recondition) but they do not. Right now using my Dh's window 7---- my window 8. In shop-pain in the behind.
I am glad you got a replacement. But keep all of your paperwork on it just in case. My sister has seen Walmart employees restock defective electronics back onto the shelves when she returned them, instead of sending them to the manufacturer.
You just never know. Our little $300 net book has run like a charm for several years now. At the price I didn't expect a whole lot. My hubby does all his work related stuff on it. Don't remember which version of Windows it is running. It has been one of our better computer investments.
I hope this one lasts a little longer Captain. I never buy a computer without a service policy. I never type anything without it. Jerry
Way back in 2004 i bought a Dell Computer a Dimension 5150,..Windows XP 2000,..it went dead after a week,..however they collected it and replaced it thankfully it runs as good as new to this day,..come the new year it will start dying as there will be no more support or updates,..i am going to convert it into something else using virtual.
