Had to replace thr refridgerator last March and the washer dryer unit went out this morning. It is a stack unit and my wife was washing and drying and she walked out to the utility room and could smell something. The insulation on the wiring was burning, or trying too. Cut off everything and took out the wet clothes and of course the tub was full of water, so we had to tip that out. The panel for the washer is totally dead but the dryer works. But now are afraid to use it. So I guess we go to Lowes this afternoon to shop for a new set.

We have been expecting it to go out for about a year. In 7 years we have had to have the dryer repaired 4 times. And I'm not putting anymore money into it. For what we have spent on repairs, we could have bought a new dryer.

Why do washer dryer units always seem give up when they're full of water? They never just stop working before they fill up or at the end of a cycle when the washing is almost dry.
I hope you manage to find a replacement at a reasonable price that will last you for at least seven years without needing repairs.

We got a pair of the front loading type. They are stackable and we went with LG brand. They will deliver and set up this next Wed.

That's good that you've already found a new one Capt. I've been eying up the LG washers - did you get a steam unit? My washer could go at any time now.

Let me know what you think of the stackable, I've been eyeballing them myself. Ours is 16 going on 17 years old and I know it is just a matter of time
