The word antsy comes from an old saying,"What's wrong with you, do you have ants in your pants?" This was addressed to children who couldn't dit still and were always moving around. The term was eventually shortened to say they were antsy. Jittery would be another term for it. People now call them hyper. Dooley In reference to a question in my blog about the summer reading program. Dooley
Thanks for the answer Dooley. I don't think I've ever heard anybody use the word before, definitely not back in Ireland anyhow. We use hyper Any other gems for us?
My Mama always told us to stop being antsy when we were kids especially when we were supposed to be still during chruch service!! I can still hear it in my head! hehe!!
I don't know when I first heard it. My mom used it and when I was typing the blog I didn't stop to think about what I wrote. I guess it isn't used much any more. dooley
OUCH!!!!!Imagine them getting inside your clothes!! We have an ants nest under the patio but the birds do a good job of keeping the numbers down. They're only the common black ants thankfully.
the best thing for ant control is horned toads. They eat a ton of them. They will sit right on top of the hill and enjoy their meal. Dooley
We always use "antsy" - my folks were from the Midwest of the US, so maybe it's more common there - they taught me all kinds of little phrases that don't seem to be used as much over here on the West Coast. Red ants - ack! We don't have them here and I don't regret it. I usually just have to deal with either carpenter ants or little black sugar ants.
We have some red ants and those little black ants that raise welts when they bite. They eat the corn and other sweet things they find in the garden. I'm originally from the midwest (Illinois and Wisconsin). Maybe that's why I know the antsy saying. Dooley
Those red ants bite you in places you didnt know you had if you sit on their nests, my girls still have visions of me running round the garden, whacking myself, with my shorts and underwear wrapped around my ankles!
