I have thought about delving into the world of growing mushrooms for a while and I have recently decided to take the plunge. While I have done a LOT of research about it, I would like to hear from anyone who has done it both indoors and outdoors.

I know that Oyster mushrooms and Shiitake can be grown indoors with fair success. I plan to try both if I can find the room to do so.Both will be transferred outdoors eventually into special beds or on log beds.

I am looking into trying wine cap, stropharia, mushrooms outside when the time is right to start them.

So does anyone have any experience with any of them or another mushroom growing them intentionally? Indoors or outdoors?

That's where I am likely going to get my spawn from. Very helpful people and full of information.

I just hope to find someone who has raised any species in the same growing zone as I am in. Maybe that will help me get the right species so I don't waste money on mushrooms that aren't going to do well in my climate.

I haven't grown, although I am interested in doing it, I have a friend who did it in her house and eventually ended up with the spores all over her house and the lung infection ( I think it is called Aspergilloma) that goes along with continual exposure. She had mushrooms growing on her carpets when the humidity got high enough in the Summer months. Just so you know to be aware what can happen. If I do it it will be outside or in a greenhouse/high tunnel.

That's kinda scary to think about. And the pearl oyster is supposed to produce a lot of spores. I might have to rethink using that specific one.

it isn't my intention to scare you, just make sure you are aware of the possibility and research it for yourself.
