I picked one up today to plant to try hide the compost bin area.
I see them here and there... but don't know anyone that I could ask about it. The guy at the nursery didn't know anything about it... except that it made red flowers.

Ooo! Lucky you! What a great idea for a screen too. Camelias were growing in my yard (and all around the neighborhood) when I lived in coastal Virginia in sandy well-drained soil and various sun exposures. Very carefree shrub, didn't need to be pruned as it had plenty of room to do its thing, flowered all summer long, pretty shiny green leaves all winter. No pest problems, nothing, just pretty and happy. Very nice shrub. I don't have room for one here but if I did, I'd have them.

Thanks for the info Daisy. There's one growing across the road at this abandoned old house. It's getting so huge and is quite a beauty! Figured if it did that well on his own, I should haven't much problems growing one too. :D
