I had a filling in one of my back teeth replaced today. With the annual check-up and X-ray which determined the need two weeks ago, plus a de-scale and polish, the total bill came to £410. Fortunately, I rarely need anything done, just as well really.
Nightmare Mr Regan I stopped going a few years back after the hygenist tried her best to drown me. Just as well as nearly all of my teeth fell out anyway
I'm on an HMO plan. My hygienist visits are $25. I haven't needed much dental work, so I don't know. The veterinarian, now.... holy moly!
I donot like dentist’s ,there’s something about close proximity and literally in my face…omg… I have a very kind and gentle dentist. I have dental insurance from the VA. Veterans health insurance. I don’t need any fillings have a yearly cleaning check up and so far so good. As far as my veterinarian cleaning my dogs teeth. I do all my doggies teeth. It’s quick and easy once they are trained to not freak out (like I do), with someone scrapping their teeth. One time start with a small bit here , another attempt there … until it’s not a big deal and don’t have to worrry about blood tests and vet charges that are over the top since most veterinarians are now in large corporations all the charges are similar to getting a crown or two.
We both go to a private dentist and have a dental plan, called dental plan that only covers a checkup and the hygienist every six months, i needed a very old filling re done and it cost me £89.00. I don't like when the hygienist cleans my teeth sometimes, the assistant can be very close to my tongue with the suction tube and make me retch. Every day i brush my dogs teeth with a herbal doggy toothpaste, so they don't need to go to the vets.
Years ago I had a filling which became loose. Dentist told me that it's too close to the root. So he very strongly advised a root canal. Looking at this face, I got the feeling that he wasn't being very honest with me, (when you've been a card playing shark your entire life like I have, you get very good at reading faces)... So I sat down on the PC, and started searching. I discovered that university of Chicago had uploaded all their dentistry lessons on YouTube. So I started watching and learning. What I discovered was that there is something called Dycal, which is a self-setting rigid calcium hydroxide-based dental cement. So when your cavity is too deep, instead of a root canal, this can be applied - Which that dentist didn't tell me - As this wouldn't have cost anything in comparison to a root canal. So obviously, my hutch about his intentions wasn't wrong. Therefore I started watching and learning more intensely from all those dental lessons uploaded to YouTube... Soon I realized that the easiest fix in my particular case was to extract the old filling, clean the cavity with an excavator dental tool (if a drill isn't available) - Then clean the cavity with Sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl). Put a little Dycal in there, on top of which you can do the regular metal filling. So all these supplies I was able to easily get from a medical supply store's dental section. Including all the tools. So many years later, I still have no complaints. Because like everything else I do, it never ever fails when I do it all myself! Whole thing from start to finish including all the tools and chemicals plus Dycal, cost me less than a meal in an average restaurant, (believe it or not). So just goes to show how much all dentists are actually ripping everyone off... This post actually just inspired me to get all those old dental tools out and clean them. As they seem to have acquired some rust. And how I got back to that dishonest dentist, as well as gave him a lesson in humility - Plus embarrassing him in front of his entire community - Is a story I'll talk about some other time... Anyway I have absolutely no regrets whatsoever, as this gave me an opportunity to become more independent in a disaster situation where the society would collapse. I'm a doomsday prepper, so this is what we do to attain peace of mind.
Yeah Logan nice job brushing your pets teeth. Very important , can really help keep those vet bills down. A little training and you’re off to cleaning.
