I want to try that next year. And would I have to play like a butterfly and pollinate -with Q-Tip.??? Thinking cherry type would have space for.
Tomatoes have perfect flowers. Just tap the truss when the flowers are open like a trumpet. They are self fertile, meaning the plant will pollinate itself.
Not me. That does not work for me. We don't have enough sunshine, humidity or heat for it to work. It seems to be more work than return on the time and effort trying to get fruit.
Even though house is small. Have one window I could give it a try. And it's warm enough in this room and plenty of sun.
KK, you will need to supplement the light to about 12 hours a day unless all you are doing is keeping the potted plant going until spring/summer. I tried a greenhouse experiment in the late summer and they took forever to ripen. We just didn't have enough natural light for the plant to produce fruit. I had about 30 tomatoes in there and I was picking them a few at a time.
You can grow them using artificial light. I do every year and I have some growing now. I picked these at the end of November.
I grow tomatoes indoors every winter with HID lighting. Here's a little video I made about how I pollinate indoors. You can actually see the pollen falling off the blooms. One year I grew Mexico Midget tomatoes indoors. Man did those things take off. http://www.tomorrowsgarden.net/cont...matoes-and-peppers-indoor-and-outdoor-gardens
