I bought some fresh figs at our local fruit and veg market. I couldn't resist them, their aroma was intoxicating. Anyway, they only way I have prepared fresh figs in the past was by grilling them and serving them with marscapone cheese. Any suggestions?

I can think of 2 off hand that I have made. the first is a conserve, used for breads, ice cream, or just in general a topping of somekind.

This is all to taste, no set measurements.

figs, sugar or honey, apples or pears, and some grated lemon rind, and juice of the lemon.
Chop, dice, cut and grate all the above, and cook very slowly until all is very soft, but not mush. Then mash some of it seperately, (half) then add back to the chunks,,, either use right away or sterilize some jars, add to jars and seal. When the tops pop the jars are sealed.

The second is very easy. Cut figs into slices, add pear slices, sprinkle with cinnamon and brown sugar, and lay out in a baking pan. cover with just enough wine (i use black current wine) to where its level or below with the fruit. then bake at 350 F, or 185 C. until juice is bubbling and mostly absorbed into the fruit. You want your fruit to overlap or in layers its up to you. Any wine will do but the reds are more tasty for this. Its all up to your taste as far as the cinnamon and sugar. This is great served with fresh mint and fresh whipped cream or use ice cream. If your not into wine, apple juice or grape juiceworks great also.

This is one of my favorites.

    Spring greens
Peeled and slivered granny smith apple
    Fresh figs (quartered)
    Black Walnuts (coarsley chopped)
Red Bell Pepper - large diced
Balsamic vinegar and olive oil (1 part to two parts shaken vigoroulsy with fresh ground black pepper and sea salt to taste)
I also have crumbled bleu cheese or a mild goat cheese on this salad. It is simple and really tasty!

My favorite thing to do with figs:

That salad sounds great, budagardener. I am making it today. I ate quite a few already but have plenty left for salad. I used Biita's second recipe and topped it with a crumble, yummy. Thanks everyone!
