2 big eggs 1,5 dl (deciliters)/5 dry ounces US sugar 1,5 dl flour 1 teaspoon cinnamon 1 apple Butter and a little bit of pearly sugar Divide apple into boats, remove stones and peel. Whip eggs and sugar until airy. Mix the cinnamon with the flour, fold it carefully into the eggs and sugar. Pour into a greased pan and decorate with apple slices. Put a few dollops of butter on top, sprinkle on pearly sugar. Bake on 200 deg C/390 deg F for about 25 minutes. Serve hot with whipped cream. Yummy! (Didn't have pearly sugar left, but ordinary sugar also works fine.) Edit: Forgot to add that I usually triple the recipe and make two fairly big cakes. One usually disappears within half an hour. Edited by Toni to change 15 ounces of sugar and flour to 5 ounces....typo on my part.
Droopy, this sounds really, really good. Quick and easy add to it's appeal Now so that I can convert it to measurements I am familiar with what does dl stand for in the sugar and flour measurements?
Oh, sorry toni, that's deciliters. I remembered to convert the degrees, but what do I convert deciliters to? I'll go and fix the dl in the recipe anyway.
Thanks Droopy. I couldn't find the dl listed anywhere on conversions.com Just checked conversions.com again looking deciliters and your 1.5 dl become 15 dry ounces U.S. Could also be measured as 5/8th cup or 10 Tablespoons.
Thank you toni, I put your dry ounces measure in the recipe. Glenda, not yet, please! *stern mommy-look* Wait until you're a bit better.
I have all the necessary ingredients except apples and tonight is grocery shopping night so I think that cake will be our dessert tomorrow. Sneak up here Glenda, I'll try to save you a chunk of it.
AS delish as this cake is, I will have to be the sinner- I would add big scoop of freshly churned vanilla ice cream on top. (And no, I would not remove the whipped cream- I believe desserts with as many sinful tastes of whatever sounds good heals my soul- also makes it a lot easier to deal with me when I am in my sugar bliss state. But- I do have to hit that treadmill and go out and dig in the gardens to work some of that off. And if I can't get enough off, it's back to my crazy music and dancing all around the house. So Droopy, you started a perfectly nice note on a lovely cake that will make my day as soon as I am well enough to make it. When it comes out of my oven- and then ice cream, dancing, gardening joins in- probably all at the same time. It will be my Swan LAke to Droopy's Cake.
Ok, Droopy, as soon as I feel better, I am hitting the kitchen to make your cake. I will take a picture- don't blame me if you can feel my sugar high once you see it!
I just used the last of the apples from my trees on making an apple pie. However, as soon as Ian comes back from London at the week-end I'll buy some and give your cake a go. :-D I have to agree with Travelingbooklover - a BIG blob of (in my case, low fat, white ice cream) would just add to the sheer pleasure of such a great dessert.
Oh Good Grief!!! Now you've gone and done it....jepp, I need a new keyboard now, and it's all your fault. It's a beautiful pic of a deliciously-looking cake. I can almost smell it. You know, that recepie looks so that I think that I could make it myself. hahaha
We've still got apples outside, the kind that is perfect for apple cake. Sjoerd, it really is a quick and easy cake to make.
I haven't made one of those for a very long time! Yours looks so good too. I know you enjoyed it to the last crumb. Well i have a feeling i know what i'll be making today,,,lol. Thanks Droopy, great cake!
