Wow! I tip my hat to all involved in the medical profession! My Mom had to have heart bypass surgery last Thursday. It was very unexpected, as she hadn't had any symptoms of heart disease at all. But she needed 5 bypasses! Wow Everything went well, and she now begins the slow road to recovery. She is doing pretty well. I am just amazed at all the wonderful, dedicated doctors and nurses that have had a part in this. Not to mention all the various therapists that are caring for her. I can't believe these doctors who go to work each day to cut people open and fix their hearts! The technology is so fascinating! It's something I have not been around (and hope not to be much!) They sure have my thanks and respect!
Very glad to hear your Mom is doing well after her bypasses. With the improved medical knowledge these days she is probably up and around by now. My Dad had Quintuple (5) bypass surgery back in 1980. His was the after affects of a heart attack and he wasn't happy about the favorite foods he had to give up and he had to give up smoking too but he did it. He had real fun while in the hospital by removing the batteries from the monitor they had strapped to his chest, just to see how long it would take the nurses to hit the door. I think after the second time, they were begging the Dr. to nail it to his chest
Glad to hear your mum had a successful surgery, Kay. You guys must De very reieved. Hopefully her convelescence will go well. Hang in there.
I had qudruple bypass done back in 2001. But they had to do a beating heart bypass on me. They were afraid to put me on the machine as they were afraid that they wouldn't be able to get it restarted. The best advice I can give your Mom is to do the cardiac rehab, and to continue the exercises after the rehab. I have exercised at the health center that is where I had the rehab and is supported by the hospital. I go 3 days a week for about 20 minutes a day. It's hell the first few times you go, but after a week or so,it gets a lot easier. And it helps you heal a lot fatser too!
I'm so glad your mum has come through her surgery so well Kay. I hope she makes steady progress now and will soon be feeling top of the world. :-D I don't think the medical profession, be they nurses or doctors, ever get enough recognition for the long hours and hard work they put into their jobs. Instead too many people are ready to abuse them, both verbally and physically, these days. I wonder how many of them would have the patience, commitment and down right staying power to do the jobs those in the medical world do.
No symptoms and then 5 bypasses. Wow So happy everything went well for your Mom Kay, and yes, doctors and nurses should be applauded for their good work.
Kay, how wonderful that things went well for your mother. You must be greatly relieved! Please print out a copy of your post and take it to the hospital. Medical staff are not thanked often enough, and yours is a particularly nice thank-you.
Kay, glad to hear your Mom is doing well after her heart surgery. Hope she continues to do well with her post surgery rehab.
Wow Kay, I'm so glad your mothers surgery went well. Doctors save lives and I always thought they didn't get enough recognition - or pay, but that's a whole different subject. All the best to your Mom for a speedy recovery.
Thank you friends for your nice comments and well wishes. Mom will be heading to a rehab facility for a week or so before she goes home. She lost her husband this past November, so she lives alone. Luckily there are many, many fine friends ready to help, as well as me, my sister, and our kids. It will be an adjustment. She is used to being quite active and doesn't like to stay home (unlike me, her homebody daughter ) There will also be physical therapy, and Capt. K I'll tell her what you said and keep pushing her to follow all the advice. Her nurses have been top notch, very true professionals! Hospitals certainly are a big business these days! I hope I don't go back there for a long, long time! Unless it is to the maternity to see a new baby
