Last nights storm was interesting to say the least. The part that passed over us was not very wide so it was like a hit and run...about 70 mile per hour wind, enough pea to marble sized hail to have me moving the car under the trees at the side of the house, 1.25 inches of rain, then we got some sun just before sunset. There was one funnel cloud spotted about a mile north of us.

Some areas got golf ball (2") to softball sized hail (4") and lots of it with the heavy rain and high winds. About 5 miles north of me got only a light breeze and a few sprinkles.

    A little info on tornadoes.
When it is still in the clouds it is called a Rotation.
When it drops down from the bottom of the cloud it is called a Funnel.
When it does touch down it is then called a Tornado.

There is quite a bit of tornado damage in different cities along the storm path. They think it was one tornado that just hopped across the whole area for about 50 miles. But the National Weather Service is gathering info from weather spotters and witnesses so they can decide just how many funnel clouds were actually seen and how many tornados touched down.

There have been two storm related deaths. One man was unloading some wood from his pickup when the wind blew it over on him, his neighbors got him out from under it unharmed, but he had a heart attack and died before reaching the hospital. The other was a Police Officer in the city of Irving who was answering a call when his car skidded on the rainy street and hit a telephone pole.

And Tuesday we get to do this all over again unless the weather conditions change before then.

I'm ok here we had a bad thunder storm and lots of hard rain.High winds got only 1/2 inch of rain in the gage.I
thought it would have been more than that.I think Madisonville got more than we did out here.

Thanks for that bit of info on tornados Toni. Severe weather really scares me! I guess I'd never make it as a Texan!
