Yea Kathy, I tried it many years ago. I don't keep plants in my house for they go "wee wee" all over the floor. They all live in the greenhouse which is a wonderful place to grow Aquaponically. I quit for I love dirt. Barb in Pa
Our member KK Ng has many blog entries on his aquaponics experiences this last year. http://www.gardenstew.com/blog/c8051-1-aquaponics.html If you begin reading on page 3 http://www.gardenstew.com/blog/index8051-c1-p3.html you can follow the whole process from the beginning.
Thanks Toni, really appreciate it. Kathyd, I had lots of harvest from my tiny aquaponic set up and I can really say it is a great way to grow leafy veggies. I am working on another method which does not need pebbles and it is a continuous flow process. This continuous flow process would eliminate the need for the siphon process making the set up much easier. At the moment I am thinking of doing it next year as an expansion of my current set up. If you like to work on this method, I'll make some drawing available for you.
If you have ever been to Epcot Center, they have a place called, "The Land". In it they show how to grow food in this way and they serve it in their restaurant.
I have never tried it myself, but there is/was a place around here that did it. They had barrels of fish they raised for food, and used the fish water to water the veggies. Their veggies did not taste blah like the store boughten ones do. It kept them fertilized, and they were written in up in magazines and whatnot. I have no idea if they are still around, and cannot recall their name. My son wants to build a greenhouse and try it though.
