The title says it all really, here are a selection of photos taken over the few days we were north of the border. I hope you enjoy them. On Wednesday 11th November, we arrived in Scotland, in Dumfries. We had a lovely dinner, just the four of us, then to bed. The following day, with a little time to kill, we wandered into town, and this wonderful river cuts the town in half. As you can see, a couple of fishermen chancing their arm at some early morning fly fishing. I wonder if they caught a plump salmon or trout for their supper? ( photo / image / picture from EJ's Garden ) As we travelled around for a couple of hours, we stumbled across a village, and if my memory serves me correctly, it was called 'Old Abbey'. Well, you can see why it got it's name. Unfortunately we couldn't get into the abbey, or the shop as it was only open at certain time over the winter. However, what a stunning place. ( photo / image / picture from EJ's Garden ) ( photo / image / picture from EJ's Garden ) ( photo / image / picture from EJ's Garden ) ( photo / image / picture from EJ's Garden ) Next stop, the castle. A stunning building with a medieval castle, then a later addition attached. Stunning grounds, friendly staff, and apparently, a resident ghost, although I didn't mention that to the children or else they would never have slept! All family members rushed around taking showers, having their hair and nails done, getting dressed, cleaning shoes and putting on those finishing touches, before all meeting up. ( photo / image / picture from EJ's Garden ) ( photo / image / picture from EJ's Garden ) ( photo / image / picture from EJ's Garden ) Young James with his cousin, Zoe. He adores her and has decided Mark and I might like another baby!! ( photo / image / picture from EJ's Garden ) Daniel, the groom, with his children, Alex and Benjamin and the piper. ( photo / image / picture from EJ's Garden ) Now the ceremony, a magical event held in a magical, candle lit room. The children were all angels, and of course, both sets of parents shed a tear or two. The bride looked beautiful, and that long ruby red gown hid a pair or shocking, 4 inch heel, ruby slippers!! ( photo / image / picture from EJ's Garden ) ( photo / image / picture from EJ's Garden ) ( photo / image / picture from EJ's Garden ) ( photo / image / picture from EJ's Garden ) After the ceremony we enjoyed a sumptuous wedding breakfast, and then an evening of chatter and laughing in the Snug. ( photo / image / picture from EJ's Garden ) Jessica with the bride, and my new sister-in-law, Lisa. The cake was simple, a light fruit cake and a selection of cupcakes as there were only 20 of us. With Jessica having a severe egg allergy, the bride had chocolate egg free cupcakes made especially, a lovely thought. ( photo / image / picture from EJ's Garden ) The following morning, all the families enjoyed breakfast together, and then we took the chance to wander around the grounds and grab a few last shots. Wow, great photos. You all looked so pretty. Did you knit the shrugs you and Jessica are wearing? The bride was gorgeous in the red dress and they make a very good looking couple.
Thanks Toni, and yes, I did knit the shrugs. The wool was called Foxy, and mine was Silver Fox and Jessica's was Lynx. We certainly needed them as the castle keep where the ceremony took place was f-f-f-f-f-freezing!
Gosh EJ you managed to pack quite a bit into your trip to Scotland. You even managed to capture a rainbow. :-D If only you could have stayed for a couple more days then Ian and I would have travelled to meet up with you all. I love the wedding dress but don't think I could cope with 4" heels - well not nowadays anyway!! You all brush up really well and I like those shrugs Jessica and you were wearing - just the thing for our Scottish weather.
Good fotos, EJ. It is easy to see that you guys had quite a time. Those wedding fotos were nice to see, but for me it was the abby and castle that I found most interesting. I really like historical stuff, you see. It's a good thing that I wasn't with you guys at that abby, or I'm afraid that you would have had to leave me behind to thoroughly examine the ruins whilst you went on to the wedding. Hahaha. I can be hopeless around places like that. Anyway, thanks for these fotos. They were such fun to look at.
It was equally pleasant to see the photos of the old architecture AND you and your family. I like the shrugs a lot too and I love Jessica's tiara. You all looked so pretty -- except James of course, who is very handsome. The Abbey and castle pictures are really neat to see. I love old architecture. How old in the new addition on the castle? Two other details I liked -- the rainbow... and the bull where you can see his breath in the cold. I am getting a travel bug BAD looking at everyone's adventure photos.
What can I say, except marvelous. you even captured a rainbow :-D . What a grand time, thanks for sharing!
Wonderful picts. I liked the picts of the castle with the rainbow. you all look so nice all dressed up. Glad you a good time. Thanks for sharing these.
Gorgeous photos! You have me drooling for more, from outside and inside that castle. The bride is stunning, and you all look so nice. Jessica and James are such dearies. Are you going to listen to James I wonder. Now, did you have some more castle photos?
Great photo's EJ, did you notice the 'orbs' in that on shot of you and your daughter? You both have orbs on your right hands, and several others in that shot also. I know it could be caused by dust or other things, just thought it was interesting.
Thanks everyone. I do have more pics of the castle and Abbey, so maybe I will post a few more. Yes Cuatro, I did see the orbs. Hubby took lots of pics of Jessica and I, and they were all covered, some almost completely! I have always jokingly called them ghosts, and the castle is apparently haunted so who knows. I like to think if it is anyone, it is recently departed family who have come along for the ride.
