Tell us about the move, the distance and the length of time?

Welcome to my favorite place to be. It may be yours if you get to know is. This is a friendly patch to grow in.

    Welcome to GardenStew.

From what I have learned, this is my first year to plant asparagus, if you dig them up and transplant to a large pot for the move they should be okay. Take as much of the dirt as you can with them so they may not notice being disturbed.
When replanting them do NOT trim off any of the foliage, take them out of the pot, tease the roots apart and transplant like you would if they were new crowns. It's also a good time to remove any weeds you see making an appearance.

The absolute best time to move them is in either late Fall when the tops are dying back or Spring just before the soil is warming up....but if you try to disturb as little as possible you should be able to get them moved safely.

Well, when you buy asparagus crowns they just have some lightly moist, what looks like sawdust to me and they are good for a month. I would just do the same using a loose potting mix.
