When we visited my father in laws garden to do a bit of de-heading and tidying and check my orchids in the cold frame, we found these in bloom, My mother in law planted them who passed away in Jan 08, Just goes to show, your garden remains a joy after you may have gone. It is so lovely seeing her flowers blooming again and what a wonderful colour for Autumn.

    WELCOME BACK!! We've missed you.

So glad the mums flowered as they are such a lovely, rich autumn colour. I'm sure your late MIL would be pleased to see them flowering again. :-D

Thanks everyone, and thanks Frank my husband is an avid plant enthusiast and it all comes from his Mum she was a keen gardener and her garden was always pristine. We are working on it slowly trying to get it back to how wonderful it was, I have been rather unwell so have not been about so much, but I have been bobbing in and reading posts here and there, just can't stay vertical very long! I have some Orchid photos to share if anyone would like to see them, not so many and not the best quality ( my camera skills are somewhat lacking LOL) I can at least put them in my garden area. I know they are not really garden plants but I still love them. Thanks for the kind words everyone, it just brings back so many memories of my MIL working in her garden with a smile on her face covered in dirt!

What a poignant posting, Playtime. The flowers are lovely and just the colour one expects to see at this time of year. They look Mediterranean, do you have to set the container indoors during ther winter?

I have missed seeing you on here. I am sorry that you have not been feeling so good...but it is great to see you back.
What a stroke of luck that your man has inherited the 'feeling' for plants from his mum...a blessing indeed.

I was quite moved by your post, Playtime. I also keep seeing my grandparents in their gardens when I pass certain plants. Now, heal quickly and come play with us again on a regular basis. *hugs*

Thank you so much for missing me I really didnt think anyone would notice I wasnt around as much  The plants stay out year round they die back over winter after flowering and start growing again in early summer and flower this time of year,we dont take them inside or into the coldframe and they seem to do okay, they have had a couple of feeds as they are in pots and we cut all the dead off in spring. There are so many things in the garden that remind us of my MIL including a pair of stone boots we bought her for mothers day the year before she died, it has a lovely heather in it and never seems to need any attention it just does its own thing, We keep getting little surprises of things bobbing their heads up like some oak seedlings that I remember my husband taking the acorns round and she planted them in pots just to see if they would grow and sure enough we have little mini oaks growing in the pots! There were some lovely Lily's grew earlier in the year but the bugs ate most of them! We need to work something out for those next year. I really appreciate everyones kindness, I love going into the garden as it is almost like she is still there in the plants and things. A little bit of her and her passion for gardening will always be there.

You bet we have noticed you were gone. Glad to see you back. I hope your health continues to improve. Your posting was so moving and sweet. Flowers can evoke such loving and precious memories of our loved ones that have passed. Nice to see you and DH are keeping her spirit alive.

It looks like you have lots of things to remember your m.i.l. by. I have that too in my garden, but it's my grandmother that I think of, as my parents were real stadsmensen, as we say--city folk.

Thanks for the info on that plant in the container. The flowers are quite pretty and the foliage is also attractive.

Hope to see you posting more often.

What lovely and loving sentiments Playtime. You MIL must have been a sweet lady. You must smile every time you look at those potted oaks and think of her planting them "just to see.." Very touching. I know I have said before that I garden in the yard where I gardened my whole life with my mom so I do think of her every time I'm outside. Makes the garden that much more special. Thanks for this post. I hope you stay on the mend now.

Thank you, so much everyone, yes there is something special about memories in gardens and I smile every time I go there and see it. I thought they were either mesembrianthumums or chrysanthumums (sp) but I wasn't sure. I sure have missed everyone and really am very moved that so many have said they missed me! I promise I will try and keep more active on here :)
