The May 17th planter partly gave up the ghost while we were away. I tried to nurse the poor things back to health, to no avail, so I gave in and bought some cabbages:

I really liked the frills on this one:

    The Sparaxis are blooming too:

And the Gentiana sino-ornata alba. It's got some blue in it, and I like the striped outside:

The Tradescantia that was rescued from the overgrown, neglected north side. I've tried to find it's full name but haven't succeeded so far:

Those are really pretty. The flower almost reminds me of a lilly. Thanks for sharing.

Love the Gentian cultivar...we're just a bit too far north for them to survive here, otherwise I would definitely have them. And the Spiderwort is beautiful too. I never saw that variety before. Everything in my yard is brown and crusty (still no rain in sight here).

Droopy your Tradescantia is so pretty and I really like your gentians too. Those ornamental cabbages look so good that I may try growing some myself. :-D

You've still got lots of colour there.
Those ornate cabbages are quite decorative, I must say.
The Sparaxis catches my eye with it's bright colours.
I have to say that the Tradescantia is unusual to my eyes. I have only seen that one a couple of times in the garden centers. It looks so delicate with that subtile blue central bit.
I think that it is the Tradescantia andersoniana 'Osprey' to me.
I like the looks of it, don't you?

Thank you all. I hope you'll get some rain soon kaseylib. I'd happily share some of mine.

The best thing about those cabbages is that they can take -5 C/23 F, so I'm hoping they will last for a long time. :D

I think that's my Tradescantia Sjoerd. I really like the fluffy-looking blue middle. Maybe I'll find a name tag in there somewhere when I continue the digging.

    Beautiful blooms Droopy.
I have never planted ornamental cabbagge but I really need some color out front this fall so I think I need to try some.

My Tradescantia is the one with purple blooms and chartreuse leaves. It looked terrible late spring into the summer so I whacked it back to about 6" tall and now it is starting to come back nicely.

Thank you Toni, and good luck with the cabbages. Our slugs have lined up, licking their lips, so I'll be busy squishing this evening. Your Tradescantia sounds lovely, have you posted a photo of it somewhere? I really like them for their ability to handle bad treatment, even though unintentionally.

I got it with birthday money in 07, it stayed covered with blooms in the early morning shade.

The only blooming it did this year was in April. But it looks really good now so maybe it will rebloom later this month.

I've always loved Ornamental Cabbage for fall, but forgot to plant some this year. Your frilly one is beautiful.
Your Tradescantia is a wonderful color...I don't think I've ever seen one before.
    Great shots Droopy.

Thank you Netty. I've used heathers before, they're more available, but I like the cabbages better. :D
