Agile wallabies grazing on our not-so-green grass ( photo / image / picture from Bernieh's Garden ) I'm just sharing some of the sights around my garden here in north-eastern Oz, over our mid-Autumn and end-of-Autumn months ... April and May. Early Autumn morning ( photo / image / picture from Bernieh's Garden ) Our dry season usually begins towards the end of April, but so far this year it's been a slightly wetter dry season than usual. That's what happened last year as well, so it seems there's change in the air. Gosh how I wish my autumn garden looked half as full of flowers as yours. You have some lovely blooms in your garden. Thanks for sharing them with us Bernie. :-D
Eileen, the mid-Autumn to mid-Spring is the very best time of year for us here in the tropics. It's just a fantastic time to get out and enjoy the garden. I'm so glad you liked the photos taken around here lately. Thanks so much for the seed and the patch. I had to check to see what the patch was all about, as I haven't really been on the site for what seems like ages.
Beautiful blooms in Autumn!! I need to find out more information about the Euphorbia leucocephala and the Salvia madrensis...those are gorgeous. My garden really comes back to life in mid-Autumn...whatever survived the Summer that is. Just did some googling and found that the Euphorbia leucocephala is better left for other gardens than mine, just can't provide what it needs here. But I have the perfect spot for the Salvia madrensis....now to find one.
Bernie, I was wondering if any of the trees in your area are home to epiphytes (bromeliads in the crooks of trees etc.)or are the summers too hot? jerry
Toni, you're right about the Euphorbia. It really does need a humid, hot tropical clime, but it doesn't do well with cold. That Salvia madrensis gets very tall and develops very long cane-like stems. It can fill a large space very well. Best of luck in your search. It's a lovely plant. It sounds like our gardens start coming back to life at the same time ... after the horrid summer. We still experience summery conditions well into early Autumn, so it's definitely mid-Autumn before there's some relief.
Jerry, the Vriesea Brom that was included in one of the albums, sits out in the crook of old cut-off fronds of my African Oil Palm. We can definitely have Broms and Orchids sitting in trees here as long as they get shaded from our harsh mid-day summer sun. They love the humidity and heat though as will thrive outdoors as long as they don't get that direct sunlight in the middle of the day.
Thanks Toni, Domm, Jerry, Lukeypukey, Frank and Mrs. Galeassit for the seeds. Thank you also to Henry and Toni for the patches. So glad you enjoyed the photos.
