I am now deciding whether to plant a avocado plant or not in a container. I know avocado is a big tree but I am wandering how will it actually do in a container. I have googled it but I am still not convinced that it will fruit normally in a container.

So has anyone plant avocado in container before and what are the result like?

I put things in a small bucket with holes and then a larger bucket with holes, gravel in. Coggee filter over both. Then I put the plant and 2 buckets in the ground. That helps it keep moisture and confines it's roots. It is easy for you to dig it up in future years to clip roots back that have grown out the holes. That's how you get Bonsai. Bonsai grow full size fruit.

I have many trees that would get 50 and 80 feet. That are 30 here and only 5 feet tall now. I don't have to water them extra because they are in the ground where I mulch.

Thanks for the great tip Barb ... I don't think I want it in the ground because of the very limited space. Hmm ... maybe I can just plant it on the road shoulder outside the house for everyone to share :). Then again someone might just complain :( or do something not right!

Wow!!! That's really cool even a bonsai tiger to go with it. :D I really like it but planting in the ground for me is still out of the question. The ground here is rock solid and when it rains the water in the dug hole of about 2 by 2 by 1.5 feet takes a day or so before it is absorbed into the ground.

Do you have a bonsai fruit tree?
