After missing three weeks we went back to the farm market today. It was partly cloudy which cut down on the sun and there was a slight breeze so it wasn't too hot until almost noon. We had only planned on staying a couple of hours. It was just going to be a try it and see how it went.
I sold two aprons, but I took orders for three tote bags and two aprons so I considered it a good day. We left at ll:30 so we were there about 4 hours.
The powers that be decided to close for the month of August. It's hot, but not much hotter than it's been for the last three months. The farm people are just running out of stuff from the spring plantings and the summer and fall stuff isn't coming on like it should due to the drought. They were going to close for September but I told them that wasn't fair to the non-farm people that they were trying to encourage to attract more people. So, they will reopen on September 10th after the Labor Day Weekend.
I don't know if the farmers will have much to sell but I will have more stuff to add. Then, people will start to buy for fall and Christmas. I guess they will try to keep it going until the first of the year. I hope they do.

Selling two aprons and getting five orders sounds like your time at the Farmers' market was well spent Dooley. Do you take the addresses of the people who leave orders with you and send them on to them? If you do remember to include postage and package when you tell them the price. I didn't do that with my first card orders and was left making only enough to cover my costs. I know better now!!

Let's hope the market stays open from September right through until after Christmas and that you get lots of sales and orders for you totes and aprons. :-D

Eileen, I knew the people who placed the orders. They will either pick them up at the farm market or I will deliver them in town. I do add postage if I have to mail the orders. I know from mailing them approx. what the postage will be. They pay in advance if they are from out of the area.
I really love the cards that you sent to me. I'm proud to have Eileen originals. They are beautiful.
    Thank you! dooley

Sounds like a good day at the market. Sure wish there was one around here. And "thumbs up" for making sure it reopened for the fall. Farm markets aren't just for the food... there's so much more, like your aprons, etc., flowers, plants and crafts and items you just can't find in the big retail stores.

Yeah Dooley, that sounds like a good day for you.
BTW-- do you ask for a deposit on orders placed?...Like 1/3rd or half even.

I ask this because there are folks that will order something perhaps fully mean to buy something at that particular moment, but then (for what ever reason) never return. I would see the deposit as protecting yourself from a loss of time, material and money.

Glad to hear you got back to your market. That's too bad that they are closing up for the month of August. Still, I wish you the best and maybe you'll even have a few customers stop by your house or call for something. I invite my customers to come by my house during the week if they need something. (I don't see many of them, though).
