Brian called me out to hear the dove singing this morning. He said to bring the camera. I got pretty close and zoomed in and it didn't turn out too badly. While I was out, I took a couple more pictures. This is bindweed growing up the fence. I pulled and pulled bindweed this year and some still grows. It's pretty but will take over the entire yard. As I was coming back inside I spotted this little butterfly on the grapevine. Usually when I want a butterfly picture I have to follow the butterfly all over the yard and it gets away. dooley
Very pretty visitors! Don't you just hate that bindweed? I battled (constant pulling out) that for 3 years in our gardens and then I learned a trick. Take a tendril (still growing in the ground, of course) from it and put it in a baggie with Round-up. Use a twist-tie or rubber band to seal it tightly around the stem. Since the roots of bindweed are all interconnected, it will kill off a lot, if not all, of the weeds. And never let it bloom! Once it blooms, your battle is lost for the year. Mine is pretty much gone, except for the occasional volunteer that I just yank out.
I like your butterfly, Dooley. Good luck with terminating your bindweed. Sounds like a plan from Jakrum. Gardengater
I do love the doves and your photos are wonderful. We have bindweed here but it a wine color. It drves me crazy. I'm glad your getting photos of the butterflies.
The butterfly appears to be a Hackberry Emperor Asterocampa celtis. They are really fun to watch zipping around in groups under Hackberry trees and they will 'buzz' you while you are standing there watching them.
Great pics Dooley. Good luck getting rid of the bindweed, although it is pretty. I know what you mean about chasing the butterflies, I do the same thing. Great shot this time...
You got to admit, the bindweed is pretty, luckily that's one weed we don't have. That Dove sure looks nice perched up there.
