I don't know very much about computers but I want a new one ....I go into Best Buy and the one I was looking at the man said it was too much computer for me...How does he know that? I want one big enough so I do not have to replace it in 4 years...I was looking at a 8GB.I think 8GB means I have more storage but I am not sure..I want windows 7 and I don't need a monitor..Problem is I do not know what ram is only that mine is low..and I keep running out of virtual memory and it won't let me download photos. I want a computer that I can just put my SD card in from my camera and I think I should get one that would let me do some songs on it...or movies...does anyone know of an easy book so I can understand what all the things are they are talking about? I one I was looking at was a Dell 8000 series. Any other good features that I should look for on a computer? I am looking at spending not much more than 1,000 dollars. moderator's note: added a more descriptive title to topic
8Gig is no doubt the RAM, that would be your memory or speed of the PC, you prob. would be happy with a 2 or 3 Gig, and a nice big hard drive 200+ for storage etc. Win7 is the newest OS and should be a good one, easy to use, I would however never have any PC but an HP or Compaq/ with an AMD processor same thing! it's a great PC and most important has FREE tech support 24/7 for life, either by phone or online (like a chat) and they are terrific!
SusieQ...I checked out HP and you had to pay for the lifetime support . I couldn't find anything anywhere that offered it for nothing. I do have almost 500,000 pictures or files on my computer. At times it runs slow but today it is working great...figures with us out looking. But this computer will be history if we can find one we like or at least someone that knows something about them.
I don't know if this is what you're looking for Sherry but I thought it might help you choose a new computer. http://www.build-your-own-computers.com ... ystem.html
You are wrong you always get tech support with any HP product, it will be right in your PC, I have used it often, online, like a chat also on the phone, and i have a Compaq, made by HP and the tech. support is 24/7 for life, whoever told you that is WRONG!!on mine it is at the START, Help and Support..and then right there is connect to customer support, mine even has serial #, model # etc. right there info. needed to give to them..
I believe there are different levels of HP Tech Support, the basic one is free but one or more of the levels you have to pay for. So neither of you is wrong, you are just talking about different service levels.
Sherry8 the Dell you are looking at I believe is the Dell Studio XPS8000 ..... WOW!!! it is a very up to date machine with an Intel i5 processor unit. Yes this machine will definitely meet your requirement in excess and easily last you more than 4 years in term of your required technology requirement. Window 7 is a great choice for the operating system From your description of your requirement, yes the man in the shop is right, it is too much computer. I am running Window 7 on a very much lower specs computer which I build myself about 3 years ago. I believe you can save quite a bit if you look at something more to your technology requirement and you had made the very first right move by asking. OK I am no computer expert but I learn alot from my son who is doing a degree course computer engineering. From your description what you need is a computer for everyday computing requirement with a slightly more advance technology for a little edge and to last at least 4 years without being outdated. From this information I would recommend a computer with a Intel Core 2 quard processor. The processor is just like the brain of of the computer and it is doing most of the work. Another processor maker is AMD and in my opinion they have lack behind Intel. At this moment for storage device or commonly referred to as Hard Disc Drive or HDD, the industry standard is 320 gigs and moving up to 500 gigs which is plenty of room for storage. For the Random Acess Memory or RAM, it depend on which operaring system or OS you want to use that is Window 7 32bit or Window 7 64 bit. For 32 bit 2 gigs of RAM is ideal and 64 bit 4 gigs is OK basing on a Intel Core2 Quard processor. SusieQ07 you are right HP/Compaq has free tech support 24/7. I am too a great fan of HP err not Compaq My first branded PC is a HP and it is more than 10 years old and is still running 8) very slow like an old man like me. My daughters are both using HP too. Thier free 24/7 support is for questions and they are very helpful in assisting to solve your problems within their capacities. Ooops! I think I got carried away, anyway please check out this HP model HP Pavilion p6280t series ( [url=ht...w.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopp ... 80t_series ) and I am sure it will meet with your requirement with some saving too.
