You can have basil sprouts to add to salad or a sandwich in just a few days. Get a new, natural sponge and rinse out good and sprinkle the top with basil seeds. They need light to sprout so don't cover them. I put the sponge on a saucer where I can add water from the bottom. The seeds swell and turn into greyish gelatin-like blobs before they sprout. Basil sprouts taste like basil from the seed-leaf stage onward tho, so just let them get a little size and pull them off to enjoy! I save my own seed but if you buy, get untreated seeds of course.

I have to try that! I've got a couple of new natural sponges so all I have to find is the seeds. :D Thanks for the tip.
